DIstorted signal

Ya'll !
Im trying out my Mpc X from scratch now,brand new machine.
Im trying to get a input signal for sampling , but the sound is extremely distorted, either way i set the line configuration.
Something is obviously very very wrong, and i feel like a jumbo numbhead for not knowing whats wrong or how to fix it.
Any enlightened heads here that can help out ?

Distorted signal is probably indicating that your input signal is too 'hot', i.e. set too high, but it could be a number of other issues including incorrect type of level for the input you are using (mic/DI/phono/line), faulty audio cable etc. Please provide more info on what it is you are trying to sample and which inputs you are using, software settings etc etc. The more detail the better.
