I want to start sampling for the first time but have a ?

I hope this dont sound dumb but i want to just ask yall sample heads a question about sampling and how you go about doing it. When i first started making beats i use to sample off those cheesy sample disk that might have a catchy loop or riff. When i did sample off of maybe a cd or record i only loop. Now i dont really want to know how to sample but when one of yall sample do you just work with the one song yall sampling from for ideals. What im saying is, if i sample a part(not a loop) from a song, is my job to find more ideals from that song to use or different ways to freak it or do i just gather material from many songs and string them together. I want to go about this the right way but at the same time i dont want to come off as lazy but at the same time i dont want to waste my time doing something that is stupid to do. Im a keyboard beat maker and yes my gear list my say i have record or a turn table but as of now i only collect records so i can study the techy side what so and so artist was doing now i have a good collect of stuff that i may want to freak. Help me out!

son, sample what you feel that is hot. now my advice to you right now might be a little crazy because it is my birthday and i am drunk, but you do what is hot for you, but keep it up to date. listen to what you sample and go outside the box. listen to it like you don't put beats together like the average hiphop person. if you like it then go for it. we as beat makers and producers, we are our worst crititcs, but do what you feel! do it for the love!

I had to start out lifting little stabs and hits before I learned to get loops. Don't forget to sample yourself on dem keys...

I do this all the time, sample a one hit chord or riff of myself on the triton and load that sample into my 2kxl. Why, cause sometimes I want that one hit/stab/riff on pads instead of keys.

ima re enforce what the other guys are saying. if you wanna sample a 1 sec string sound, do it. there are no rules as to what you sample. i even sampled a train track "clickity clak" in my lifetime. ( yes i did it before eminem on 8 mile).
so do what you do and love it.

young_keyz man. thats the best advice ever. u seem to think music production is sum kinda standerd procedure. it aint. sample wateva that sounds nice 2 u, after a whole bunch of samples, think 2 yor self which 1z r gonna sound nice 2getha? then get crakking on your beat.

Whatever you sample think in muscial terms of a measure, whole note, half note, and quarter. For hits go into 1/8 on down and see how it fits over ya rhythm.

Its funny that some of yall would point the finger or envy the gear I have and throw back at me as if don't know what I'm doing with it. All I ask was when yall sample do yall just work with the song itself or do yall just take bits and parts from here and there. What do that have to do with not knowing how to use your gear. I didn't ask how to truncate or filter or chop up a sample on the mpc. I just ask about what's the best way to look at it. Ask you can see by my gear list and as I stated I'm more of a keyboard beat maker than a sampler. I have over 100mb of drums alone that I have sample or edit. Not to turn this into a flame but some of yall sample base beat makers are the worse to get advice from when yall see some one who has more than yall but don't really know how hard they might of work to get it. I aint not rich kid. Just a man that had a dream and didn't stop until I reach it. Thank yall all.

dont worry keyz. shake them haters off cuz. this above was the best advice given to u. there is no set way to sample. just make sure its hot. i started out taking pieces from diff songs and then combining but ive found recently that i try to work with one record for my sounds. that way i dont have to try and make things fit (soundwise). they'll already mesh. u mainly have to go by what the music is telling u to do. i dunno, i just feel that as a producer, the music just kinda makes itself sometimes. as in, once u hear it, its kinda obvious what u need to do and how u need to do it. hopefully that helps.

vakseen gave good advice. don't worry about the haters. do what you feel. seen said it the music sometimes makes itself. you just have to guide it. think of it as your child, nuture it, and let it grow.
