Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Bygcn2000xl Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:23 pm
cool. i just got mine on ebay as well for about 40 bucks including shipping. it was listed as "new" but wasnt new in my standards as it came with no box, cables, or anything. but it is pretty great shape, almost mint. so then the scsi cable and power cable mod should keep you below 50 bucks total. but the 1Gig CF i just got was $90 shipped so this upgrade aint all that cheap.

sweet to know the floppy bs is just for atapi :)

I've tryed to search and i've find the s2000 modification but not the ansewr if it's good also for the mpc2000...

I think you can do the same type of modification with the 2000, but I read somewhere (on this forum I think) that this particular drive will not work with the 2000 non-XL. There are other reader out there such as this one. I can't validate if they work or not.

"if it's good also for the mpc2000"

It is possible but it requires lots of extensive modification in the hundreds of dollars because of the odd configuration of the MPC2000 mainboard. For that amount, you could dump the 2k and pick up an XL.

is it possible to use a scsi 2 usb adaptor to access the mpc's internal card reader from the pc? like them scsieXchange cables.

If it's similar to the procedure i've found 4 the s2000 (how is same old architetture i think ) it could be more immediate 4 me then change my mp, somethere sombody sayd you had done it on a mpc2000 classic is it true? Or to put an harddisk?

"f it's similar to the procedure i've found 4 the s2000"

No, it is more difficult than the S2000 mod because the MPC2000 has no internal SCSI connection. One has to be added.

"is it possible to use a scsi 2 usb adaptor to access the mpc's internal card reader from the pc"

Yes in some cases, check the archives as I have mentioned many times.

MPC3000 - re: scsi-usb adaptec. I am concerned about blowing the scsi fuse and i have searched the archives and google regarding this. You mentioned a "2 masters on same bus" warning to be careful of, would you mind elaborating on that so i don't make a mistake in powering up the devices, etc. much appreciated.

I was thinking to connect an internal scsi device to the external scsi port and then connect the cable to the device passing tru the hole of the smpte and connect the power internally, maybe it will work or it's only a stupid think? If this is possible also to soldering the cable directly to the internal part of the port would leave the port free 4 something else or not?
I don't know if it's clear.. sorry4my english..

Nanoloop, look on ebay. Im from Melbourne, and I just got one shipped here from the US. All up it cost me $110. Worth it in my opinion.

Its givin me troubles installing it though...
On the Load screen, it just keeps saying "Scsi not ready" Can anyone else help me out?

-Theres no jumpers on the terminators
- Im using a 256mg sandisk Compact Flash card... FAT formatted
- The light on the CF drive flashes, so it detects it
- None of the pins in the Compact Flash slot are bent,

What could it be?

Please someone help me out, Im pullin my hair out here!

I have a pin in jumper 1 on the slot in the back center of the drive. Nothing on the left slot. See the picture on the previous page.

damm, still cant find one on ebay. i might have to track one down through an online retailer.

If you can find a retailer, let us know...

Looks like im gonna have to find another one, this one has to be faulty...

Ive tried everything under the sun to get it to work, tried every jumper combo, checked every pin in every drive, I must have pulled the thing apart 5 or 6 times. I bought a PCMCIA card just to see if that would work... nothin
It doesnt work in my MPC or in my PC

Spewin at the dude who sold it to me, the dodgy ****. He obviously knew it didnt work.

Anyway, after all this effort, I have to get another one to work, I need closure. you got a bit of competition on ebay Nanoloop... he he
