I wonder if you can use the next sequence function via a remote program change message?
if yes, will this also work when the next sequence window is NOT open?
I know this function is possible on the 2000XL, but what about the 4k?
thanx,

Hi Pixel,
The next sequence function via remote program change does work
in the MPC 4000.
On the MPC 4000's before OS 1.7 (1.6 ---> ) the function ONLY worked
when one was in the "Main" page. If one was in "Track Mute" or "Next Sequence" it did NOT work. But it did work fine but just on the "Main" page. It functioned as it did
in the MPC 2000XL. WHen the MPC recieved a program change request
that was associated with a sequence, it would send that requested
sequence to the "Next Sequence" field and when the current sequence
finished playing, it would swith to the next sequence that was requested.
On the MPC 4000 as of OS 1.7 --- this functions when one is in the
"Main" page, the "Track Mute" page and the "Next Sequence" page's only.
Also, in addition to this, they've added additional parameters in the
"Glogal" page, that allows you to make it so that the changing of the
Next sequence happens. In the same place that you select the channel/port that these change requests come in on , where you can turn
on this feature , you can also have either "Off" "On" or "Sudden"
"Off" obviously turns this feature off.
"On" turns it on , and acts as described above where it will wait for current
sequence to finish before switching.
"Sudden" turns it on and makes it so when it recieves the change request
that it will react "Sudden".
So for example, I play in a group where my partner plays MPC 2000XL
and I play MPC 4000. When he uses the "Next Sequence" feature on his
MPC 2000XL, this queue's it up on his MPC 2000XL to play at the end of
the current sequence. My MPC 4000 meanwhile, has no knowledge
of this request. When the MPC 2000XL changes to the next sequence,
it then at THAT point sends the change sequence request to the MPC 4000
which then places this request in it's "Next Sequence" queue. Depending
on how long my current sequence is, it can take 4-128 bars until it switches
over. SO I'm playing the old song and he's playing the new song.
Now with this new feature (I haven't tried it yet), in OS 1.7, when the
MPC 2000XL switches sequence and sends the program change request
out, my MPC 4000 will switch to the the current track immediately, so
we'll be playing the same song together.
Now our group uses MPC 2000XL, but this feature is also useful in the
Studio.
Let's say, you've decided that you want to Use Logic/Cubase whatever.
You can then embed Program Change requests to have the MPC Switch
it's sequences automatically. I used to do this with my old TR 707 and
now with these new features, we can do this with the MPC 4000. And as well all know the MPC 4000 is SOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE then the
TR 707.
So now at bar 16 you can have the MPC switch from Sequence 1 to Sequence 2 and now with the fast Multi Changes, you can even
have a completely different Multi with 128 new parts and FX settings and
Q-link / Q-link sequence settings.
Free up Logic/Cubase to do what it does best and allow the MPC to do
what it does best
Cheers,
Dave
