Ultros wrote:Why the **** do we want a mini d for? It was a piece of shit in reality and its a piece of shit in software. Like we want to buy antiquated emulated synthesis of some piece of trash its sad they keep pushing this garbage and people keep lapping it up like they are stoked to have something they could do with keygroups oscillators and some fx chains. Akai is repeatedly making garbage now look at stage piano.. what an epic pile of dung.

And i mean like.. look WHO is saying this.. i am a major fan of innusics shit clearly but these plugins they are creating are pure shit. Visually, memory footprint wise, processor wise...

Also for the record and i dont care who see's this **** THE MOOG MINI D ITS AN ANTIQUATED PIECE OF OVERPRICED SHIT, and anyone still buying one in 2022 is throwing money down the toilet.... We are well past that. Infact **** MOOG. Moog is runnin off their old clot long time now and its not bangin anymore... its not 1970 anymore thats a 50 year old primitive designed mono synth.. **** use bassline..

Finally someone said it! And while we're on that topic, why are people still buying **** guitars, that **** was invented ages ago! And did you know that the Zildjan company was founded it 1623 and people are still buying their cymbals! to this **** day! I mean come on! ****, seriously. They're selling the same **** crap for over half a millennium! And don't get me started on singing, that **** is so antiquated, you to be a **** to **** **** **** ***** *** * ** * * *** ** * *. Really, I mean it.

That felt good getting that off my chest, back to browsing Mini D presets :-D

So I got the trial Mini D (and Flavor Pro) installed now on the standalone on software.

I also have the Moog Model D software VST, and a trial of the Softube VST. And I have a Behringer Model D. So I will be comparing the Akai VST against these.

If the VSTs sounds about the same, I suppose the advantage goes to the Akai MPC.

And, yes, I think the Minimoog sounds are awesome and well worth pursuing -- even though we've had decades of other synth sounds.

I still haven't found the time to sit down with the FM synth I picked up 2 weeks ago, so I won't be getting this for a while. But I think I will at some point. I have the basssation 2 which is capable of similar tones, but I think this will be handy. Being able to get out of my room with just a keyboard and the MPC to work on ideas will be dreat. And anything I cream on the Akai D, can then be re-routed to the Bassstation to see if it can do better, and if not it can stay on the D.

Having the OPX4, Odyssey, Model D, and solena for me makes the MPC a nice rounded set up.

Out of interest Ultros, what would you like them to add?

I completely get why why the D was added, to a machine that has a massive Hip-Hop user bass, but also that this isn't the most complex synth.

I've been looking at Modular a bit recently , and not that I'm hoping for a modular synth in the MPC, but the way the Microfreak used some of ides and oscillators from Modular, something different is certainly viable. Mutable Instruments Plaits is a popular module, yet the company has closed. This module is open source, as a few things there are. So something along those lines would be a bit more adventurous.

A wavetable synth you can load your own wavetables in would be cool too.

Whoever don't LOVE this Mini D must have a MINI D  :P

I'm going to purchase this chocolate box like George Clinton and Bernie Worrell did in New Jersey to form P-Funk!

Best plugin BY FAR for those who need the FUNK inside a FLAGSHIP standalone MPC!

I’m gonna say MINI D is UP there in quality and is a very welcome addition to the line up. It’s a digital version of….. 8) THOSE WHO KNOW, know.

Flavor Pro is great as well. Surprised at the JUMP in features from Flavor to PRO, it’s immense!
I can DEF see vinyl purists giving this a ready nod and pass.
I can see lo-fi purists lovingly embrace it.
I can see LOTS of people scrambling to find a way to place it somewhere in their fx chains.

These are my initial thoughts after an hour.

With newer offerings BASSLINE and TUBESYNTH are becoming more and more useless.

Well they will always be less processor intensive, great for small stuff that is less noticable. Odyssey really is a completely different sound.. one I have always been partial to as well..
