Hi there, received today my brand new Live 2 and I'm pretty excited....however....

1) Just unboxed and plugged, the MPC was 0% battery, maybe it is normal, probably it was on a shelf since forever....in any case, the MPC is charging...: after about 20/30 minutes remaining at 0%, it is now, one hour after the initial startup at 21% and slowly but steadily charging....does this rate seems normal to you ?

2) The charger...it is supposed to deliver 19V DC, but I measured it and it is delivering 29.5V !! What about yours ? Has anyone measured his power brick ? Anyone know whether the DC in is voltage-regulated or not ?

I measured in MPC One, but it has no battery, So Live should draw more Amps, but Volts should be 19-20 max.

The lithium battery in all devices should be stored around 3.7V per cell which gives in many cases 30-60% battery in the device out of the box.
In MPC 0% battery is probably set at 3.2V? So theoretically nothing bad will happen if it is stored on the shelf for 3 years with a 0% state.
But if there is a problem with the power/battery management on the motherboard (discharge protection failure) and the cells went below ~2.5V in the box then they were physically damaged.
It is theoretically possible to revive a dead cell by powering it with a very small current to a safe value. Which is probably what's happening in your case (long 0% condition during the first charge), but I don't know why the 19V power supply brick is giving much more.

DC in of the MPC is regulated, all such digital devices can‘t exist without proper regulation.

The more interesting question is if the power brick is regulated...
If it‘s just a transformer with rectifier and caps, then 29V is a normal figure: the voltage will drop by the load of the MPC down into the 19V region.
But if the brick is a switching psu type, then something is very wrong and it should not be used at all. A very unusual case, though.
It doesn‘t cause immediate damage, but the regulation inside the MPC must work much harder and you should experience a significant amount of heat in the area above the regulation.
A rough indicator for a switching PSU is it‘s low weight. A transformer with rectifier can be expected clearly above 1 pound and feels like a block of metal in your hand.

Hey Andy - it's been a day since your last (and first) post/update. Did your MPC Live II eventually charge to 100%? :hmmm: Usually takes about 1.5 hours for mine to charge from 10% to 100%.

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have a job that involves some night shifts, and when it happens, it's like having a jet-lag :roll:

Anyhow, here's the situation : slow and steady charging up to 100 % was achieved with no problem.

I tested the discharge rate then, with a simple yet not really 100% significant test : just kept it powered up, no job running, and the first result was not that good with an average of 0.4% every minute, so, to go from 100% to 10% it took about 3h 40m.

I guess there must be some kind of battery "training" involved tho, so I reckon it will take 5/10 charges before reaching its optimal status...anyone agree ?

Oh and..my bad :WTF: : my Brymen multimeter battery was drained, this is why it was reading 29.5V !!! After replacing the battery with a brand new one, the reading was 18.9V, so pretty good.

Right so, these are lithium ion batteries and there is no "battery training" to my knowledge. That said, it's also not recommended to completely discharge a lithium ion battery to 0%, so it coming like that out of the box is troubling. After another discharge cycle and recharge cycle or two, you should be able to get just shy of 4 hours of battery use - and not just sitting there doing nothing - you should be banging out on the pads and actually using your MPC. I keep my screen on the dimmer night setting, and time it out after 1 minute, and my battery lasts around 4 hours (and this is on an over 2 year old Live II). Good luck!
