I was in mid flow and suddenly my headphones went silent (speaker also stopped working).

On restart I got an alert:
--------
AUDIO DEVICE ERROR
Error: Could not get PCM hardware configuration from device.
Code: -22
--------

I have no external USB devices connected so I am worried this is referring to internal MPC hardware? I do have a SD card inserted, but removing it and restarting does not help.

After a few restarts and the most recent 2.11.7 firmware update the error stopped showing, but I still hear no audio, except for a regular quiet clicking sound. When I play a project the meters on the display show that sound is playing, but it's not being output.

I reached out 2 weeks ago to https://support.akaipro.com/support but have received no reply so far. Is my MPC bricked? Any advice on what to try?

Thanks!

Firstly, that's really poor from Akai. They have a ticketing system now, so there's no excuse to not respond to tickets in a timely fashion. You can't even ring them anymore so I'm not sure what you are supposed to do to get support. I seriously cannot fathom how companies get away with this.

Yes, it sounds like a potential hardware failure of the internal audio device. However it's possible something software related could be amis.

A few things to try:

MENU > PREFERENCES > RESET PREFERENCES (worth a try)

Check the internal MIDI mapping folder 'Internal > Documents > MIDI Learn' - there's a bug that's filling this up with GB of user mappings. Seems to be causing system errors as well.

Thanks for your reply and tips MPC tutor. Unfortunately none of those works, which makes the likelihood that this is a hardware failure stronger I think.
Failing any response from the manufacturer, do you know if there are such thing as independent service centers with technicians who can diagnose and fix issue like this?
Its a real shame as the unit is brand new, has never been taken outside my house.

Damn, yeah at that point I would return it to the retailer (if you still can). Man WTF Akai just went from awesome to complete shit in the last 2-3 years. We could deal with the buggy OS at least when we had support reps that were active and available, and Akai actually responded to things. They are trashing what little reputation they still carried from the original Akai real quick. They better hope enough pissed off users don't attempt a class action lawsuit if they're not responding to support requests.

I consider myself lucky my OG Live is pretty much flawless (minus the stupid Pad Perform crap in 2.11) but at this point, Akai's attitude (and development outlook) has guaranteed I will probably never purchase another MPC again unless I go back and finally get the big bad 4K. I love working off the computer with it, but man Cubase's Groove Agent chops my beats faster and gives me just about the same workflow in the box, I've got sampler tracks with more modulation options then the MPC has, plugins that knock that AIR crap out of the park, and I have no problems going back to that if/when this thing ever stops working.
