SSD still not showing up in MPC Live

I recently bought a first edition MPC LIVE, and I've got a Samsung 870 EVO SSD connected. I already formatted it to exFAT, and the SSD will show up when I plug it in my laptop, but when I connect it back to the MPC, no dice. Everything is up to date as far as firmware goes, so I'm not sure what the problem could be other than trying a new SSD, maybe? Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's been a while since I did this, so I could be wrong.. I seem to recall formatting to exfat via my laptop and installing it into the mpc and it not showing up.. I think I resolved it by leaving the ssd in the mpc, connecting it to my laptop in controller mode and reformatting it that way. It should show up as a connected drive on your computer. Exfat is the right format, it just has to be done in the mpc in controller mode, not connected directly to the computer or through a dock. Good luck!

At 4:40 mark. This is how I recall doing it, only using mac disk utility instead of windows.
Initially I formatted it through an hd dock connected to mac. Mpc would not recognize it.
I wonder why some end up having to do it this way.

Was this first edition MPC Live used (if so, it might be broken)? Because an exFAT formatted SATA SSD should just show right up when you turn your Live on if it's connected right. Are you sure it didn't become unplugged?

Yeah, my Live was used. I'm thinking there might be an issue with the cable to connect the SSD itself. Even though it seems secure, the drive doesn't even show up when I plug the MPC in controller mode, but it DOES show up if I plug the SSD straight into the laptop. And I've watched that Matthew Stratton video 1,000 times. I guess I'm out of luck.

I had the exact same problem with MPC Key 61 and Samsung EVO 870, even after I formatted directly with a Win10 Laptop, and it was working fine, but still no good in the MPC. I raised a support ticket with Akai, then I wondered if the problem was that I had initialised it with MBR and not GPT (I thought as MBR was the older one it would be more reliable). So I went back into Windows Disk Management and deleted the volume, reformatted as GPT and exFAT, then on a whim I left it in the SATA case which I used to connect it to the laptop, and plugged it into the Key 61 USB socket - worked fine. So finally I put it back into the Key 61, but this time (third time I had done this), the connector inside the Key 61 clicked loudly as I plugged in the SSD - so perhaps I had been too tentative before or it was just new and stiff. Anyway, this time - it was recognised by the Key 61!
