How to copy / paste notes that are off the grid?

Good to see folks complain about this. I hope it catches on. I hope Akai gets around to updating the editing sooner than later.

In this case, we need what DAWs consider Duplicate. Much like MPC's Copy, but recognizing bar placement instead of starting after the last note.

Not a work around, but very inefficient compared to what it could be. And yes, annoying. 2 seconds here, 2 seconds there. If you're in an editing phase, jumping in & out of the grid is a PITA.

I get this workflow from older MPCs. But with these touch screens and accompanying software, some DAW-like, efficient editing updates are in order.

By the way, i just found out you can plug a computer keyboard into the USB in, so in standalone mode you can use the shift key on the keyboard for shift + select. And the delete key also works.

this is how always did my unquantized parts even with the renaissance... you could use B1 or whatever pad doesnt contain a sound... place that one quantized first (ghost) note copy everything and paste it at the start and remove the (on grid) ghostnote but the unquantized are exactly in the same place off the grid as wanted.... did the same with some piano/rhodes/midi plugins which i love to play unquantized (time control off) but yeah took me a while to figure that out by myself, but its deffo the quickest way for me too

I hear you. I guess I just kinda accepted it for what it was early on and haven't questioned it since, especially with all the other features that I think speed up workflow a ton. I don't do most of my work in grid mode, so its become second nature to copy and paste events from the main screen... I don't even think about it anymore.

You should use mouse. In track view. Select region with mouse. Then hold Alt and try to move selection, it will copy it and paste notes with offset from selection start.

The only workaround i found so far is to place a dummy note at the start of the first bar and copy that as well, which makes it at least possible to paste the off-grid notes a bar later, then delete the dummy notes. But there must be an easier way!

Easy way I do this.

Just bang a note on grid anywhere. Use that to start the copy box from then delete after pasting


I liked the grid on my 1k.

Area selected would be copied rather than starting from the first note so it didn't matter.

I know this is not the right place to add this, but the MPC should have a pull-down menu (like the menu on the left side) which has more extensive Grid editing tools (and possibly some other track parameters). That way, we don't have to toggle away from the Grid editor and potentially interrupt our ideas/workflow.

I think the Force has a pull-down menu.

And yes, I may add this to the Feature Request thread, but I'm just musing for now...

You've figured out how to do it. Determine the exact starting location of the notes you want to copy; set the playhead exactly one bar later; shift+paste.
