USB Keyboard Tricks

In another thread, someone said...

Wait a minute.. So with a keyboard you can use SHIFT and tap to select multiple notes in the grid or what?


This is amazing. I have internally whined about the lack of multiple selection since day one... and it turns out you can do it with a USB keyboard? No more tediously selecting and editing individual notes?

Apparently with a USB keyboard you can....

... edit names
... make multiple selections
... delete hits with the Delete key

Are there any other hidden tricks?

I feel like some of this is left over from MPC 4K, it’s not a surprise.
I previously mentioned X and this little bluetooth kybd here.

What puzzles me is why you can do multiple selection with an external shift key, but not with the shift button.

Akai apparently has a really... undisciplined... software dev process...

Because the Shift button typically activates access to other menu commands and is completely unrelated to a QWERTY keyboard "shift" key. That's not to say I don't wish there was an option to do multiple selections with a hard coded button; I just think Akai expects you to use the TUI and draw a box around what you need to select.

Apple wireless keyboard also works with Bluetooth, at least with the Force. Should work with MPC Live II and the MPC X, though I haven't tried.

MS All-in-one Multimedia keyboard with USB dongle works.
Shift for selecting of several events in the grid edit mode works with the right shift key.
