Editing step length in the pad step sequencer

Apologies if this is stupid/obvious: I am trying to use the step sequencer on the pads to add/edit steps to a sequence, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the length of a step. I know I can go into the clip editor and use the touchscreen to edit the steps, but that is pretty cumbersome. I was hoping for something where I can hold down a step pad and then change the length of that step. instead it just removes/re-adds the step as a 1/16th note. Anything im missing?

It’s not possible as far as I know but I’m open to be educated. I would love the option to hold a step and make edits that way to that step. A bit like elektrons.

ahh thats a bummer. Hopefully someone in Akai is listening the step sequencers could use some real love imo

One technique I use for this is keeping screen on matrix mode (switching between that and clip constantly usually) and using Screen Knobs to change the resolution (ie 1/8 -> 1/16 then back) Hope this helps!
