Using the "hidden" step sequencer on Akai MPC's

Cool way to use the List editor by Floyd Steinberg.

Not my video but your right it's not hidden which is why he put quotation marks around "Hidden".

It's not new, the MPC1000/2500 had it, but it looks new because of the color screen & all the icons. It's basically like you said a tracker but with a different name.
I bet if Akai renamed it to Tracker Mode or w/e, more people would be into it

I've written several indie video game soundtracks with trackers (Famitracker, Deflemask), the list edit doesn't really feel the same. Maybe if it had the grid visible so you could scrub through each step 1 by 1 (including the empty steps....this really helps you get a feel for timing). I agree though, "list edit" is not enticing anyone with that name ha.

Trackers though...man, they can be super fast. Once you've setup and gotten good with the shortcuts, you can fly with them, shifting notes forward & back, transposing, adding effects, selecting whole bars and transposing or changing simultaneously, fading in and out volumes, etc.

MPC's grid edit might seem more modern, but it's stupidly slow and hard to use if you ask me. Muscle memory is a thing, and I'm sure a lot of older MPC users can attest to that.
