I was saying that if people made all their music only from things they sampled themselves, not from data-intensive plugins and libraries they bought, memory consumption would look completely different. 1 gigabyte of free sampling memory is a lot.
Then look at what's being sold: gigabytes of ready-made products for you to consume. More gbs, better product, goes the logic in marketing. If you go that way, you'll more likely have a problem with ram getting full.

Yes, I faintly remember... a Celeron 333 Mhz, 128 MegaBytes of RAM, 10 MBit coax Ethernet. And I could play that 1GB piano thing via network connection without any glitches
