One Button Sequence Step-by-Step

This is probably a stupid question. I'm not even sure I know how to describe it well.

I'm trying to play two piano riffs in a live band situation. I can't really play them reliably. I'm not a keyboardist, I'm a guitarist.

What I'd like is, for each riff, to record the six notes and then trigger them using just one button. To be clear I want to press the SAME button for each note. In other words, if I press that button in the right rhythm, it will go from note to note in the recording playing them in the right rhythm. That way, I'm playing "live" and in tempo, but I don't have to execute playing the notes.

I hope that makes sense. It's sort of like a step sequencer that only triggers one step at a time every time a button, or pad, is pressed.

Can this be done on the MPC LIVE II? Any advice would be appreciated.

I may be misunderstanding. But it sounds like you want to just trigger samples. So you record each chord or individual note into diff pads in an mpc drum program. You can layer samples for each pad. Then step through pads 1-6 as needed in your own timing. It’s possible you could rig some of pedal midi controller to fire the pads as you need.

Sampling the riff phrase and chopping it. Then you can easily place the chopped phrase on the pads.

if you are fine with just 4 notes, you can add the 4 samples to the 4 layers of a single drum program pad, set the pad to Cycling instead of Velocity and each time you press the pad it will cycle between the 4 notes in the correct order.

Hey, I understood what you want. Unfortunately you can't.

I had an old chinese keyboard when I was a kid that worked like that. I learned a lot of songs by inputing notes in the sequencer and playing the sequence note by note using 1 key.

That‘s exactly the way the Casio SK-1 sequencer works in manual mode
But the chop riff approach mentioned above is close enough imho... and it adds some fake improvisation options
