This!
But who the hell wants those corny 1990's early 2000's sounds? :WTF:

afaik it features a plate stating which of the 500 you own. And of course "The official sounds of Timbo" and not to mention "The ultimate bounce" :worthy: :Sigh:

Dunno how we can make this even more meaningless

I have heard this type of sentiment before ; from long stnading MPC heads what is the gripe with youtube influencers doing beat vid tutorials?

I have heard people say they cant stand the likes of Jade Wii or Gabe Miller, both whom do mpc related vids amongst other things, why do u think they get such a visceral dislike response?

I guess, influencers as such I simply don't. Then, there are some interesting channels, but because of the number of subs, I don't think they can be called "influencers". Maybe Cat&Beats and Dan Worrall can be called influencers...also Hobo too, Si Spex...
NearTao, his SP404 series is magnific. Joe Filburn of course
Then I follow De Ranged, DM Kahn, Electronic Music School, Firehouse SoundLabs (but no videos for 2 years), Karen Ramirez, Quickstrike.

Looking at the channels I'm subbed to, I see a lot of them are out of comission or they havent posted for some years now...

EDITED: Sorry you said in the MPC space... Guess there are not a lot of MPC heads that I follow on youtube. I've been subbed to some of them, but then got fed up with the mannerisms and unsubbed. :Sigh:

It’s not mpc influencers, it’s anyone, from any industry, who is putting out one sided, positive-only gushing ‘reviews’ because they got sent some free gear. Who thinks these people speak with any authority when they seem happy to just say whatever will keep the gravy train rolling?

I have no problem with the people putting out quality balanced reviews.

I also take issue with the guys putting out negative reviews of gear that they have clearly no understanding of, complaining that stuff doesn’t work when it’s simply user error. And when pointed out to them they can’t be bothered to publish corrections.

But I have no problem with peuple making beat vid tutorials!, lots of interesting stuff out there, for example tubedigga for the mpc, Andy Ives and joe filbrun for the force. Lots of crap as well but whatever, that’s fine you just don’t follow those guys.

But with reviews I feel you have a responsibility to be balanced and honest. You are an influencer after all, so you shouldn’t be telling people to buy stuff just because the manufacturer is sending you free stuff. I don’t think this is an unusual opinion to hold.

Yeah one would hope that. I usually watch different videos from trusted as well as smaller and unknown sources. Then I try to explicitly find negative reviews and see if more sources talk about the same flaws and also see whether these negative reviewer seem to know what they are talking about or not. And of course since no device is perfect I see if I could live with the flaws. I also like to watch people just making beats with the device. And then I also read forums and such to see how the mood is in general when people talk about the device. Good that I didn't find mpc-forums until after I bought and fell in love with the X otherwise I wouldn't have bought it in the first place

lol like that scott storch guy... i think akai thinks if they partner with rap people it will influence their primary market to buy more and they are likely right.

I dont mean this to be rude at all but, most north americans arent as savy when it comes to music/midi gear (not like europeans) but i would bet they are the primary demographic.

I just assume its all advetising fluff and ignore it.

Is that really why he used the sample? :hmmm:

It's far too tempting to construct dramatic narratives when it's much more likely that he just came across the sample pack from the magazine it was published in (which featured the sequence on a disk), misunderstood or overlooked the license, and used what appeared to be a usable sequence.

Once upon a time, many music magazines would supply sampled patches from keyboard workstations. For many years they were allowed to do this until some time in the early 00s, one of the major keyboard manufacturers asked them to stop.

Now, if you examine the samples they asked the magazines to stop distributing, you might find some of those sounds were partially derived from other romplers and sampled kits.

There was a lot of back and forth in the early days of sampler ROMs.

The above narrative presumes a lot of intent
It wasn't even a sample. The guy he ripped off is part of the C64 demo scene. They use MOD/SID files. Timbaland probably doesn't even know what a MOD file is, let alone a Commodore 64. I guess in his studio they had a SIDStation, which uses old C64 SID chips. And that's how he was able to load those SID files and playback the originally composed tune and repurpose it for his own nefarious needs.

The mere fact that in interviews after the accusation and lawsuit, which he won because he had deeper pockets than a bunch of little-known musicians from Finland, was that he was like "I'm famous, and I can do whatever I want. Who gives a **** about some nobodies from a foreign country." What a disgusting, unrepentant attitude from somebody who's as rich and famous as he supposedly is. Before he used that "Acid Jazzed Evening" SID sequence in Nelly Furtado's song, he also sold it as a ringtone. Talk about milking the same stolen beat for multiple revenue streams.
