Are your plugins deactivating? Find out why/sign petition

Have you recently fired up your beloved MPC Live, Live 2, One, X, Keys and noticed that your plugin(s) need to be reauthorized?
It's not a bug, its a feature!
I spoke with Akai support and was told they introduced this recently. I didn't get an answer as to why but it's irrelevant.
This was not disclosed in any reasonable way when I purchased the plugins nor was I informed of the change (I assume the same for you).
I hope, if you agree, that we can bring this to Akai's attention and get them to reverse this policy.
I personally will never buy anything from Akai again as long as it is in place.

I am on holiday right now and for whatever reason my mpc has decided to deactivating the plugins right now and not to connect to the two wifis in reach of the mpc

It's weird how it always seems to decide to check activation status at the most inconvenient times, i.e. when there's no internet access, happened to me on a plane a while back (MPC Software versions).

I signed the petition. Now I must vent and this is the only official non official public forum so……..

It is nice to see more of these corporate style moves from a brand like this, on the eve of NAMM, it tells me what we have to look forward to. I am a bit pissed cuz I have been trying to sell a NEW MPC with like 6 hours use on it for a month and got three calls. I saved money I did not have to buy this. Thank goodness I managed to find my way to an SP404mk I think most of us knew we were buying a Brand NAME for a defunct company that will never ever exist again but the adverts won. Meanwhile there ARE those real companies building products with passion and love for musicians, like ISLA…Polyend, Elektron, even Roland and Korg are actual companies but AKAI is gone. We were suckers we bought a brand name, its like wearing a fake Rolex.

So we bought a device which holds premade drum kits ( we can not delete) which we can buy from “Akai” but of course we can’t sell or share OUR kits on that platform… and there is no community or way to communicate amongst one another unless it is third party….

Why we can NOT delete the premade kits of the generic demos which are essentially corporate cultural appropriation cringe makes no sense. No self respecting musician uses the same generic shit some company chose because they thought it would appeal to our “urban” genre. Or am I wrong and everyone is a prefab generic clone? And anyone complaining is told how stupid we are. Tell you what, I will come move into your studio, and you can walk around me if I get in your way SFW STFU!

We can not delete the big ugly logo and link to a partner companies sample selling subscription junk, and can’t add links of our own to services we DO use because after all *splice is the only company which has a deal with “Akai” for access to their captive audience/ closed ecosystem. And if we complain the fanboy army responds protecting the corporation that refuses to engage with them except via third party contractors if we are lucky.

We can buy plugins now, but must find a connection to show our ID to the police at random secret intervals or forget about our “investment” BUT we can’t use ANY of our actual plugins because “Akai” has created a PROPRIETARY plugin for their clones, so we are stuck using our decades old 1000s of $ VST and AUV3 collections on the computer we were told we would not need for the self contained “Midi/Music Production Center” ….. so piss on industry standards cuz transnational conglomerates must feed shareholders profits before they dump the brand names and move on to refrigerators and microwaves.

Last but not least, we will essentially lose anything we “invest” on this brand because it is a name only, it is not made by the same folks, in the same place, not made with the same materials, nothing about these devices is hardware, they are locked down software meant to be made obsolete and unsalable so new purchases will go to the corporation not be lost to resales. So understand you are buying a disposable unstable , rigid uncustomizable inflexible product which will lose its value from the date of purchase and be made into E waste as soon as the corporation can possibly get away with it.

If you have any questions or complaints, you will contact a bot or an outsourced customer service rep or a third party forum who they themselves are probably the longest serving person on the “Akai” team, except they are not on “the team” because the team is hired as temps and kicked out the back door when finished. There will be NO peasant class customers gaining access to the outsourced development teams they fired after they completed their portion of the project, there will be no access to the team because there is none, there will only be actors and advertisers, sales people, marketing, but those Dave Smith types will be used as disposable temps under NDAs you have no legal access. Errrrrrrrrr. What a stupid mistake of judgment. If anyone wants to tell me I am being petty I will be happy to let you be a proud new owner of this planned obsolescence corporate BDSM product , if you are in Sweden, listing is on Blocket , I assume this site here doesn’t facilitate in resales so I will not provide details aside from it is listing by Carita. If there is a problem mentioning that we are selling I think you should take that up with yourself and this forum cuz the fanboy nature of this site is what convinced me to buy and keep this rubbish even when I was complaining about the above topics people just responded in defense of all this convoluted yuck. I didn’t even need to ask because other people were told how stupid and petty they were for wanting control over the device they bought. As if I am petty because I dont want any content on my device that is not mine???? How is that petty? To good support: I have a very, very old Doepfer product and I had a little issue with it just a couple of weeks ago. Now guess who helped me via email: Dieter Doepfer... I though to myself that he must be very busy, on doing "big" stuff, but no, he answered me....but could not help as the issue is within the architecture - but gave me tips to overcome the issue.

If you ever get the chance to go to NAMM or one of the big Euro Synth meets, Dieter is there walking around in his Doepfer lab coat (I want one so bad) helping out and talking to everybody that stops by Doepfer's booth. He's a really stand up guy and sure loves his modulars..

Quick update, we have a "backend channel" response from Akai (personally I'm a bit skeptical that this is a "bug" per my previous discussion with support, but, if the issue is resolved, I will give them the benefit of the doubt).

Thanks for your message. Our plugin authorization is designed to work entirely seamlessly and offline once you have authorized a purchase; there is no timeout. However we’ve identified an issue related to DST time zone adjustments that can, in rare cases, cause a re-authentication request. We’re working on a fix for this right now.
