NAMM is a bit of a dinosaur of a show and the pandemic showed a lot of manufacturers that you don't need to spend thousands of wasted dollars on a stand at NAMM to release a product. The only way forward for NAMM is some kind of reinvention.

The best comment so far!

soon as u spend that 2K on other shit, they will announce new products

Not looking too good is it :(

Obviously, at some point they will release a new MPC and 3.0.....it's just a matter of when :)

It may just be that we were all reading too much into several coincidences that all just aligned at the wrong time :)

1. A leaked image of the MPCXL started doing the rounds even though it was originally dated 2020?
2. The inmusic/akai site accidentally (?) posted placeholders for 3 new MPC's and 3.0 software
3. Andy Mac visited iamsight and a few days later he sells his MPCX? (like he'd seen a new flagship and was making room)
4. Andy Mac visited bolodaproducer and the next day he makes a video asking if NI should release a new maschine? (like he'd seen a new flagship and wondered how Native Instruments would react)

Are these all just purely random events?

there is no coincidence; the biggest smoking gun was the 3.0 leak on the website and I think that was intentional to start the rumour mill and also the installer packages that showed MPC XL and other MPC's

5. MPC X Drops $400-$500 at major retailers. I really hope something is announced before the weekend, but I agree, it's not looking too good at the moment.

Add Marlow Digs to that list.

His X disappeared and Andy visited him sometime ago.

I think it's fairly obvious they're all gonna drop a video at the same time when that thing launches.

"testing it for a few months, ........"

Here is a new theory/idea. I did a little detective work.

I think the XL is ready to go, but will not be announced/released until all the 1st Gen X's are sold.

If you go to Akai's website and try to buy an MPC X, it is not in stock. If you go to one the main MPC retailers, which basically has exclusive rights to the MPC Live ii Retro, There is only one refurbished MPC X in stock and no new ones.

I decided to give my Sweetwater rep a call since they have the lowest price on MPC X new right now.
He said they had about 2 dozen of them. It might take a while to go through those.

I remember people asking "why isn't the MPC Live in stock anywhere", and then...... Boom MPC Live 2.

This is all just me guessing, but it might hold some weight. I'm obviously bummed that the XL wasn't announced for NAMM. I really want the big screen, buttons, q-links, etc., but I know the minute I sell my Live 2 Retro for an MPC X, the XL will be released.

Can you do all of us a favor & test your theory by selling your Live 2?

It could be what you said about waiting to clear inventory & what another member said recently about Akai realizing during covid that NAMM is waste of cash :smh:.

I'll add that it may be more beneficial for Akai & other companies not to attend so they don't have to make promises for products releases that's not ready &/or even risk showing off stuff ahead of release, allowing another company the to "steal/absorb" their idea just to meet NAMMs event date.

Also, keep in mind that there's more than 1 NAMM per year. Something new will come out eventually, but all we can do now is wait & keep making beats!

There are 2 NAMMs a year, and no one from any of the digital audio or synth companies goes to Summer NAMM in Nashville. That's where the guitar folks go and push their new pedals/amps/etc, its about 1/3 of the size of the LA NAMM if that..

Winter NAMM is NAMM.
