MPC Live - can't overdub and record on existing and new seq

I have no idea how it happens but this morning what I record or overdub over existing and new sequences just doesn't work.
Any idea what I should check?
I successfully copied and pasted an existing sequence over an empty one so I presume there shouldn't be any file protection I inadvertently activated.

Do you have your MPC slaved to MC or MTC?

Make sure the track is armed

Tracks constantly disarming themselves is a new feature of the mpc, it all began when they added more granular midi controller settings, 2.10 I think. Before that the currently selected track was always armed, never disarmed itself. These days tracks are often disarmed by default
