Lol, You can enjoy something but still be not blind to the things needing improvement. I love my X. That’s why I am complaining. I think it can be much more than it is.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/ROCK-5B-P ... 789.0.html

they better show up to the table with this chipset for the next generation of platforms. otherwise I wont be buying akai until they start using modern embedded technology... our systems are incredibly antiquated and we could be doing exponentially more on the 64 bit platform with 16 gb of ram and a way stronger processor there's no replacement like displacement. *crosses his fingers* 84 bucks. thats about the right price for an arm board. Kicks the living crap out of the 3288 in benchmarks.

Theoretically one could flash the mpc rom to that board, plug the mpc in to the radxa 64 bit board via usb (radxa would need its own gpio / hdmi display for touch purposes) flip the mpc into controller mode and the board with the display becomes an external upgrade of epic quality. Would need to diy a 64 bit radxa kernel and stub some inmusic crap in the sysfs as well.

I sound like a mad man or chicken little constantly ranting i know... I KNOW! but I am into embedded electronics, that sort of thing is my bag baby.

A new hardware platform would also provide a handy excuse for not fixing bugs and adding disk streaming of samples (which would alleviate the memory issue and speed up load times). So then the reason for the software working badly would be CPU and RAM and bits, and not software engineering. Bigger numbers are easy to understand. Give marketing a clear way to explain why buying new stuff will solve everything. HA HA HA good plan. Give us your money and we'll give you bigger numbers... New plugins, more products to consume... HA HA I'll take over the world with this plan. They think they're "producers" but they are actually consumers, suckerzzzz HAHA The only missing bit is, how to make it a monthly subscription based service. Any ideas for that?

(not entirely seriously though)

all this talk of newer chipsets being better but the mpcs that pople hold up as the holy grail of MPC's such as the 4K, 3K & the 60 all had way older electronics then the current MPC range.

well what's the point of upgrading then @ jpeg? lol may as well rock wutcha got. we're talking about the next tier of hardware here the next DECADE of MPC. its the difference between you having an unsusable piece of crap in 3 years you will want to replace or not.

This thread is about the next gen hardware, if wanting *this gen chipsets* in our *next gen* hardware i really dont think that's too tall of an order...

the chipset i posted above is 3 - 4 years old but its still rockchips best.

What concrete issue will a new SOC solve? That the software is proprietary and Akai sits on it and you can't fix their bugs and make it work like you want? If the current product doesn't work like you'd like it to, will the situation change if there's more CPU and RAM? I'm using the Force and none of the issues have pretty much anything to do with the SOC and its "gen", it's all about the software and things like not being able to tilt the screen. IMO.

I guess I'm saying that the potential of the previous-gen hardware in the existing products is far from being fully exploited. What was the biggest thing people got excited about here - 4GB RAM, woohoo ... why? So they could spend even more time loading even more samples from disk entirely to RAM?

AKAI/InMusic doesn't care about any of what you said. Their goal is to sell you plugins like Fabric XL, it's not selling that well when the RAM is limited to 1GB for sampling. Same reason why they are allegedly adding WIFI to the MPC One MKII (and likely 4GB of RAM as well), these plugins need regular internet verification.

I didn't mean what Inmusic's problem that solves. I meant, what problem would it solve that a USER might have. Like, "my projects and samples load too fast because the RAM gets full and that sets a hard limit on waiting time. I want to have more RAM so I can wait longer." That kind of problems. Yay, 4 GB RAM, much longer waiting time is possible! Just wait for it!

Akai has to Focus more on sampling again, i dort need an plugins.

what else can they add to sampling tho?
also akai expanding its audience by adding plugins so unlikely they will stop now

Actually working transient detection would be awesome! And did I mention disk streaming of samples yet? More than four velocity layers and round-robins? Scripted behaviors like Kontakt? Sustain loop finding? RMS power detection? Automatic pitch mapping? Fine-tuning of sustain loops? Wavetables?

After all the different features Akai added to these current gen of MPC & even making whole new alternative device the Force, how could you say that Akai only cares about selling plugins?
Are you sure you're a MPC fan?
Or did I miss your point?
What was your first MPC?
Mines was a 1k (with the shitty pads) back in 2005 which I traded for a 2500 in 08. So maybe I'm easy to impress. But to me, it's feels like Akai rehired JJ since that was the last a set of MPCs got so many cool updates! - & bugs

what we gain is raw performance. the system uses a real-time kernel. threads do not *wait* for one another. there's no "kernel preemption" which means all the data flows through the processor as fast as you can tell it to. Raw performance matters with Real-time systems.

The gain would be we would no longer hear the MPC cracking an popping because its at the brink of its performance, this happens because the cpu cant keep up. it wouldn't cak out and crash on you murdering off your work like it does now. We could also then run network audio because we would have the resources to relay the audio streams over ethernet.

for example i have used "jack" to relay the audio over ethernet to my pc so i can track the mpc into reaper over multiple lanes. The current hardware struggles to keep up with the mpc software now, hence our audio drop outs and crashing of the audio interface on the regular. It's not inMusics fault or any sort of *bug* its just by nature that when using RT (Real time) systems that they will eventually sputter if you over load the processor.
