Yes, but not necessarily always free updates. But that said we've yet to see any evidence that they are ever going to charge for firmware updates, seems like the plugins are currently the way of adding premium features and generating extra income. The problem with charging for firmware upgrades is you create a two-tier customer base, so plugins, software features and expansions must either only work well with the new firmware, or potentially be dumbed down to still work well with the legacy firmware. Much easier if everyone just moves up together.
Although these 4GB models are now creating a minor two-tier structure, as ultimately the acoustic plugins like Studio Strings are really not particularly suitable for 2GB models (31% RAM per instance). But they should either revisit the samples themselves and optimise the sustain loops, layers and keygroups, or they could offer a toggle in all those plugins to switch to reduced memory versions of the patches (e.g. less layers, less keygroups etc).
