there is no point in having a quad core processor in a pocket calculator; is the best analogy I can give

people want more power just for powers sake but it probably will be of no benefit if the device has no need for that level of processing power.

this should be common sense; u dont need 4GB and octa core to make beats or run the mpc 3.0 software

ll the most coveted MPC's from the 3K to the 4K had just a fraction of the processing power of the current line,

What you are saying is basically like saying that users dont benefit from a better processor and more ram... kk why do you upgrade your music computer? Do you not notice any gains between upgrades on pc? Surely you do... what the extra cores do is offload tasks. we set the thread affinity and then set the core to be used and presto its moved so that way that thread can stay rocking at blistering good speeds. what mpc would gain from it is 4 extra cores to offload parallel tasks and what it would gain from ram is stability.

Introducing a new product with a different "computer" in it WILL NOT:
- fix bugs
- fix usability issues
- add missing features such as audio clip overdubbing, arrangement view for the MPC, audio clip cross-fades
- add more velocity layers to the sampler
- make transient detection less dumb
- make it easier to set good sustain loops
- make the auto-sampler better
- make the looper useful
- etc.

The issues I'm seeing are not related to a lack of computing resources, they're related to a lack of developer resources.

At this point, introducing a different "computer" would be a waste of developer resources and thus make it more difficult to fix ACTUAL problems.

Akai could finally give us good reverbs if that’s the only thing they do with more processing power. I mean they could also have added a dsp for that but they didn’t

I would much rather a Deluxe model with actual 12 bit conversion and analog filters like the S2400. I have a S2400 and it just sounds so much better than my MPC One. Both have their place.

Do also agree that the FX and plugins in general could still be higher quality. Particularly the basic FX, reverb delays, EQs and compressors. The only FX I love is the Granulator. Synced tape delay isn't bad either. Weirdly the Air FX are my least favourite. Wish they were smart enough to do an SDK kit like Korg and open up a market place. Then this set of machines would be unbeatable.

agree with all points the FX are very unintresting; although there is alot of them, am sure the processor in the MPC is better then whats in the SP404 but yet the 404 FX sound more intresting.

also agreee that the s2400 sound much better then the MPC but as u said the feature set of the MPC is unmatched; so both have they place, and an MPC with analog filters and 12 it outputs or the 16 bit outputs from the the 3000 would of been what I hade hoped the MPC X SE would have been.

I agree that there are alot of issues that could be solved without additional computing power; but am not sure how having a more powerful processor would make it more difficult to fix the issues you listed :hmmm:

this is never gonna happen. the technology is totally different. no way they will build up from scratch when they built a platform with which they can develop for both standalone and software version at the same time.

i feel you about compressors and eq's, but there are some cool air fx i think. also, the supposed new delay pro will be fire if they ever release it, and if it is the same we have on opX4. wonder if they will give it us for free or as paid plugin.

HouseWithoutMouse wrote:Disk streaming might not help for the memory-hungry new plugins

Disk streaming did not solve the (2 GB) RAM issues on Force when it came out, so I'd wager it won't have any effect on MPC if it ever comes to that platform either. Literally the only thing disk streaming will allow MPC to do is the exact same thing it does on Force: allow you to record audio tracks as long as your attached storage will allow. That said, it is a pretty sweet feature on Force.

The only thing that will help the plugins is more RAM (which is why we got 4 GB in the MPC Key 61 and now the X SE) and a faster CPU (something I'd wager we won't see anytime soon).
