Cutoff and Resonance CC

This might be a silly question but how the heck do you get the plug-in synths on the MPC Live II to respond to Cutoff and Resonance CC?

I'm using an MPK Mini Plus and as far as I can tell knob one is Resonance CC and knob 5 is Cutoff CC by default but none of my plug-in synths respond to Cutoff and Resonance CC controls. I've used other MIDI controllers and I have the same problem. I find it hard to believe that in 2023 anyone would make a synth that doesn't respond to cutoff and resonance CC so I figure it must be something I'm doing wrong but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

Is there something in the preferences you need to toggle on before the MPC will respond to cutoff and resonance? I'm very new to the MPC line of samplers and I'm still learning the workflow.

gotta use "midi learn" and map the cc to the program control to get it to work properly. there's probably a tutorial on midi learn in here somewhere.

If those CC# are named „Filter Cutoff“ or „Filter Resonance“ it‘s because that‘s what once was defined by the General MIDI standard. Funnily enough, almost no developer sticks to those.

If I remember right, Access Virus C used CC# 40 and 42, Reason devices use 74 and 75, while microKORG uses 30 and 31.

I navigated around that by using different CC# banks on my controllers for just that.
