Hi

I am disappointed by the performance I get when running MPC as Audio Unit in Logic Pro. I don’t do that very often but I sometimes prefer working this way.

When running Logic Pro in native mode (not in Rosetta) with MPC as an instrument plugin and my MPC Live in controller mode, the performance is OK. Practically no lag, everything is fine.

But if I run Logic Pro in Rosetta, the same setup becomes unusable. Huge lag, meters and scroll bar seem to be refreshed once per second… unusable, even with just one track with MPC running one program.

Kind of makes sense that in native mode things are better but such gap seems huge. Since I have some plugins and hardware that needs Logic Pro in Rosetta, running MPC as a plug in is just practically not an option.

I am wondering if other users have experienced this and if maybe there is something in my Logic or MPC settings that I could tweak to improve the experience.

Thanks !

Setup: MacBook Pro 2021 14 inch M1 Pro / Logic Pro 10.7.7 / MPC 2.11.7 / Audient iD4

rosetta is thought only as a temporary workaround for allowing you to use old apps\plugins before they all get updated, you can't expect things to go smooth under rosetta. the issue here is not on the mpc plugin side, but in the fact that with rosetta you try to match old architecture with new one, with a real time translator... not good for real time use, just to maybe recover old projects until all the plugins are up to date.

Not to be an ass, but good luck with that.

There are a lot of devs that are not porting over their x86 based software to ARM, especially Legacy software, because there just isn't enough incentive yet (as x86 is still the leading arch throughout the world), and yeah, Rosetta is a joke.

This is why I am so against Apple's move toward ARM, and I hope it fails as it did in the past when they tried it (the other reason is that ARM does not allow for any upgradeability/modularity, and creates unneeded e-waste, since upgrades virtually mean you have to throw the whole machine away, and buy a new one, as everything is soldered on the damn chip) <--- which is so hypocritical coming from a company that apparently cares about the planet.

Didn't mean to sideline, but if urgency is important to you -- instead of waiting, you may want to start googling if there are any ARM-based alternatives to your current plugins.

You may find some.

Well, I found Rosetta the most surprising (in a positive way) part of the system when I got a MacMini M1.
My Win7/64 system on i5(4430) is almost identically clocked (3ghz) and I achieve almost identical raw performance when I run a certain (Win) development system on the M1, using the lazy man‘s version of WINE (aka Crossover).
There‘s also no perceivable difference running SAW Studio (a vintage DAW) in that environment.
The code translation is top notch imho. But... you have to consider both apps are coded mainly in X86 assembly and use almost no MS libs.
