Got the Live MKI. I am stuck at OS version 2.10.1, as I have the problem with the "Plug your MPC into wall to update" thing. I went to a store and tried a PSU from a brand new LIVE II. Confirmed it's not the PSU. I just wonder if I factory reset the thing, does the stock OS version also have that message if you try to update without the PSU plugged in? Would be grand if someone can confirm this!

There is no factory reset option on an MPC, the only way to go back to an older firmware is to manually install it, but that requires you enter update mode.

This issue is also unlikely to be related to the firmware version, but if you want to give it a go you could try a search for the button combination that puts the MPC Live into update mode directly from boot up, it might bypass whatever the power issue is (especially if it's a software issue)

In terms of resets, the only option is to go to MENU > PREFERENCES > INFO > SHIFT > RESET PREFERENCES but this just resets the configuration file back to defaults, but it's always worth a try, as resetting this can sometimes deal with random issues.

Other than that, try Akai support for advice, might be an easy repair.

Thank you for the tips! I actually just tried turning it on in standalone update mode as suggested in this post. What happens is - the unit powers on and then it says updating dont plug off. After that everything flashes as a regular startup and it just powers on to the same firmware. Note that I have my external HDD with the latest firmware on there. If I start it up, it recognizes the update but it's the same story all over again. I also tried installing in controller mode from my laptop - the mpc exe will tell me the live is not plugged in. I also contacted support a while ago, here is the response:

We do offer an out of warranty repair service where you can return your unit for inspection and repair to our German office. The way this works is:

1. You send the unit into us via post/courier (after we have booked the unit in and provided an RMA reference).

2. One of our engineers has a look at the unit and assesses the fault. He will then draw out an estimate of how much it would cost to repair it, including any necessary parts and labour.

3. Once the estimate has been written, we would then contact you for approval.

4. At this stage if you choose to approve the estimate (which would include any parts and labour charged at €60.00 per Hour work plus €10.00 shipping back cost depending on where your based) we would go ahead and carry out the work and then send the unit back to you. The labour to fault find and draw out the estimate will not be charged if you choose to go ahead with the repair.

5. If you choose to reject the repair, we will have to take payment from you for the engineer labour for drawing out the estimate (€30.00) plus shipping and handling costs (€10.00). Once payment is complete, we will ship the unit back to you.

It is hard to say how much it would cost to repair your unit without one of our engineers having a look at it first.

(Please bear in mind that all costs above do NOT include VAT).
