Hello,
I seem to stumble on weird issue upon issue. Today I opened a project I was working on a few days ago. It states the project is missing files. Al sequences and programs are gone, no midi data left, but programs are loading with the project.
I saved everything before shutting down, learned that the hard way, did not change the name of the project.
Anyone an idea why this is happening? Could be me, could be software, could be hardware, but whatever it is, I would like to avoid this un the future.
Thank you!

If this is considered normal behaviour and no way to avoid this I think I might sell it. Which would make me sad, but I cannot work with this if I can’t trust it on this basic level. But If its not, I ‘d like to know either how to avoid this, or send it back for repair or replacement. I sure hope to keep this fine machine. It’s quirky, but I like it.
Thank you!

Hi, thanks for replying!
I saved it to an sd card, so a separate disc.

I checked the memory card in my pc’s card reader and it says there are errors on the disc. So that might be the problem. I sure hope that’s it. Still does not explain why it got corrupted, though.

I let windows fix the card and the project loads again, still missing files, but most of the project seems to be there. So the worst of my panic is now over.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Now how to avoid this in the future?

Backup, backup, backup ... and a rugged SD card like Sandisk Extreme Pro, Samsung Pro Plus etc.

Definitely sounds like your SD Card is faulty, so backup what you can and replace it with a good quality SanDisk card. Pewsonally I wouldn't rely on a repaired card, they tend to fail fairly quickly as the fix is normally only temporary.

You might be able to salvage the project by transferring ti to a different card, or perhaps loading individual components manually and reconstructing it.

Cards get corrupted for a variety of reasons, often because they've been disconnected while data is being accessed, make sure you are 'software' ejecting the card before either physically removing it from the SD card slot, disconnecting the USB cord, or before powering down in controller mode (you should see a warning on screen about this). In a Mac, you have to hit the software 'eject' button, in windows I believe it's the 'safely remove hardware' icon in the taskbar. You can also eject a drive in the MPC browser (BROWSER > Places).

I've had drives completely die on me after only a couple of accidental 'non-ejections'.

Thank you for your help, I’ll replace the card.
If that fixes it will make me very happy indeed!
