hello everyone... I own mpc live 2 but I would like to expand my studio with the new X SE... what about you? I read and see many videos where Akai complains about this version ... above all because he only brought ram and gb ... complaining about the sound converters that are not the analog ones of the old and famous akai ... your opinions? ?? I hope to read many of you

Here's the thing... the MPC X SE is only an iteration over the product line... it comes with 4gb of memory, a good amount of paid plugins included, and has a different skin to it. The same reasons to upgrade from a Live to the X exist, so if you want the 16 q-links, might need more memory, haven't bought the plugins, etc... then yeah it might work out price wise. This new release though is probably only going to work out financially on paper as making sense for most people who have not already bought into the plugins...

For me... I've been considering hopping back onto a X for a few reasons, but the SE doesn't really do it for me, as it is an upgrade, but it doesn't bring enough to the table for it to be an instant purchase. Another thing... all of the people who had been dumping their X in anticipation of "the next best thing" for the $900'ish range seem to have dried up... which tells me that there were a lot of people not that long ago who wanted to upgrade, but now that we've seen the release for what it is, they figure they might as well stay with their X.

Hopefully that helps?

hello, thanks for the answer and the explanation... I'm in doubt... do you think Akai will make an even more powerful Mpc X in the short term on which it's better to wait?

I guess the question is how long they expect this generation of MPCs to last.

And this is a very difficult question to answer because the only real technical upgrades will be CPU power and RAM.

If Akai (or Air Music) want to introduce a new method of synthesis, sampling or processing audio, it can always be delivered as a plugin or via a software update.

It's not like the olden days when hardware devices used special-purpose processors and firmware that had limited capabilities.

There's no real need for a change in CPU architecture for the foreseeable future.

You may even find that even if they upgraded the CPU they may still share the same features (until they're too CPU intensive).

But for now, this CPU is on par with a 2009 iMac, and that was more than powerful enough for most music production needs.

I wouldn't expect any major CPU upgrades until 2027. It's a little too late to introduce a minor CPU upgrade. But not much has happened beyond Apple integrating CPU, RAM and GPU on a single chip.

Nobody here knows when Akai will drop a new flagship MPC & they already have the Force which is currently still more powerful in many ways than the SE.

Why do you feel you need something more powerful than the X SE or even the X?
What can't it do that you need it to do?

I would get whatever you feel is currently the best for your music & focus on making better beats, than waiting for a better MPC. You don't need the best of everything to make the best music you'll ever make! You can always sell it later.

Btw, all sound ADC/DAC converters are analogue, and little has changed in the last 15 years.

There was a time when a good ADC/DAC required a lot more R&D because they needed to know what worked best, etc. Materials. Conversion methods. And so on.

But that Behringer audio interface you can get for $50-100 would probably run rings around a $1000 audio interface from 2001.

Nah ....
Let's look at some things real quick.

People that are buying a 2500 dollar machine usually already are in the game.
Meaning they usually own some sort of recent MPC and often have invested in plugins already.

Those plugins are $199 on sale from time to time.
The X SE does not have 1 single actual feature over the regular X.
It doesn't have any extra buttons, inputs or outputs or special hardware.

Just that extra 2GB of Ram and the extra storage which is forgetable at 48GB in 2023 and we could easily add an 1TB SSD at $70.

As stated many times before, it's nice for those that have no X, have deep pockets and don't own the plugins.
If you have an X there is no reason to upgrade unless you got money burning a hole in your pocket.

It's very very dissapointing after 6 years. Not even the rumored ethernet port.

Yup, this is me. After making a shitload of beats on the MPC2500 for 17 years I wanted something new and was already in the market for a decent keyboard. Plus I just wanted to treat myself with something nice for a chance.

(en vakantiegeld eind van de maand weet je)

Vakantiegeld heeeeeuj! Heb je de X SE gehaald of de keys? Omdat je t over toetsen had.

And now for the non-Dutchies: If I'd had the money and not a current line MPC, I'd get a X SE. Love its looks.

The X, met keyboard I meant keyboard as in sound source, niet de keys zelf perse.

The Retro faceplate looks nice indeed but for me it's not a direct gamechanger since i have quite a bit of vintage retro MPC's and the latest Live 2 and One in that colorscheme.
Always liked the X in black, always thought it was very pretty with those red sidepanels, but again at the same price i would ofcourse pick Retro styling.
Never understood why they used BLACK Q-link knobs. :Sigh: :Sigh: :Sigh: They dropped the ball on that.

On vintage MPC's there is NO black to be found, except for the bezel around the displays (which is normal for displays) and the rear input and output panel.
I have no clue why they did that.
