Question about muting tracks...

Is there a way to automatically mute certain tracks in a sequence or to get solo's to play in a song without creating a whole new sequence for it? Right now, I'm creating a whole sequence with muted tracks on it or a solo'd track on it. Is there a way to automatically control that? I was thinking the mixer would be a good way to do it, but how can you do that when you are in song mode? Just curious to see if there is a shortcut, or am I doing it the way it has to be done.

You already know about the ability of the MPC 4000 to record track mutes?
When in the Track Mute screen, you an hit Record and the MPC will record
the Track Mute settings that you do. So for example, you can take a 4 bar
sequence loop. Extend that sequence so that it's 64 bars looping. Then
go to the trackmute page and hit record play and start muting to your heart's
content. Then your Mutings will be recorded as you do them. It does NOT work
with Solo's.
Then whenever you are in the Track Mute page it will play this sequence. You can
hit F2 in the Track Mute page and edit the recorded track mute's.

If you want them to be played when you are in the "main" page, then you have
scroll down to the "Mute" field in a track, hit the"window" button and you can tell
it to use Track Mute Recorded Events.

Then when you create a song out of different sequences, these track mute settings will play.

Hi, as for this part of your question.

Check out the OS 1.50 Addendum:

In that Addendum, it documents the new feature of being able to Record Mixer and Pad
MIxer events.

So similar to the Track Muting post, you take a 4 bar loop, copy it, so it's 64 or 128 bars
repeating.

Then set the MPC 4000 in overdub, and go to the Mixer and pad Mixer pages and
start tweaking. All these will be recorded (and able to be editted) into the sequence
itself.

Then you can string Sequences together in Song mode and each sequence will
play it's Mixer and Pad Mixer events.





Also, the nice thing about the Part Mixer and Pad Mixer Event recording is that
both of those mixer pages have Solo and Mute, so it will record that as well as the
Pan, FX send and Level.

You can also add any of these events via Step Edit.

i sent Akai an email requesting the ability to record 'solo's' in the same manner as the recordable 'mute's' work. if this is a feature you'd also like to see implemented in possible future updates, please take a moment and send Akai an email: [email protected]

i wouldn't take much for Akai to include recordable solo's at this point, seeing as the recordable mute screen and technology is already there.
