My MPC60 has arrived, 2 simple questions

1) It has no backlight, this can't be right as I've seen picturesof backlight mpc60's. It's dark as hell. Eh? Have i been bamboolzed?

2) How do i set it up to sequence the asr-10 and trigger the drums?

Most 60's come with dim backlights. Get a replacement or get it replaced.


What OS are you using?

set the midi channel to 1A synth of whatever its called and set the asr to channel 1, plug ASR output midi into the 60's input 1, and plug midi output A into the ASR.

Done.. is there anything else? cuz i still can't figure it out....lol

Do you have the manual? You can get the old manual from the mpc 60 yahoo group.

ive looked thru the mpc60 2.0 manual but without success.....not to mention the fact .pdf are a pain to navigate...


i have asr midi OUT cable going into mpc IN...

asr sequencer set to midi, instrumenta: midi 1, set to multi

do i have to mess with any sync settings?

am i doing something wrong above?

yes, and if you are trying to clock the asr sequencer you need to send midi clock out of the output connected to the asr midi in.

You should really just use the 60's sequencer to sequence the asr.

Ok. Thanks but im still having trouble here... I want to be able to trigger drum sounds with the pads and also use the mpc to sequence asr.

I've done all of the above. And still nothing.

beyond that it is difficult to see what you are doing wrong, that should do it.

that 60 pdf is a hassle, gave me a headache.... squinting my eyes like master splinter.

anyway; im not sure if this is correct setting but when i press rec/play it says Waiting... then record on the mpc it seemingly works. Is this right? I have to press rec on the asr everytime i want to record with the mpc?

As far as triggering the asr's samples with the mpc I have yet to figure that out.

evertying is set up nice and smoothly except for one thing... i want to be able to trigger samples(mpc soley used for drums) using the asr's keys but when i try i dont hear anything?

oh just to get a clearer picture, my current setup is drums on track 1 and hi hats on track 2, i hadnt known how to trigger the hi hats on track 2 so i just fooled around and came to the conclusion that i had to change the track data: Ch: to 2a (bottom) while the top cha: remains the same.... if that makes sense, does it the top CH: always have to be on 1a? It only seems to work that way....

No, you just change the track numnber (not the CHanel number) and record the hihat pad.

You do not need to hit record on the asr to record on the MPC, just record on the MPC.

Not sure how it works with the old OS. If you have the cash, you really should get the upgrade, it will be a much better experience and you'll get further faster, and learning the old OS won't really help you much with the new OS, it is such a different beast. I mean, it's 1988 code versus 1996 code.
