Cleaning my MPC60

What up Y'all....I am proud owner of an MPC60 MK1 and it's lookin kind of ruff after sittin in my closet for a few months since I got MPC4000. I want to get back to using my 60 more often, but it needs to be cleaned up a little bit. What would you guys recommend I could use to clean up my 60 without removing the decals around each of the buttons? Also, where could I order some new buttons from (the ones to the right of the pads)? I may want to possibly swap all the buttons out at some point since some them are starting to take a little extra push to perform certain functions. Any help you guys could provide me would be much appreciated...

If you are competant at soldering you can get the tact switches at mouser for like 40 cents each.

I checked out mousers website, but I am not sure what the part number is for each of the buttons. Would you happen to know what the part numbers are for the buttons to the right of the pads? Also, do you have any recommendations on what I could use to clean the exterior of my MPC with?

I posted it before, I'll see if I can't check the Part number later on tonight.

Thanks Peezie. I just actually found that thread right before you posted it. The thing is that part number posted is for the switch underneath the button. I would like to replace the button itself since it is actually dull in color after extensive use. Does anyone know the part number for the button itself and not the switch below it? Also, do you have any tips on cleaning the top panel of the MPC without ruining the words underneath each button? The panel around the "Main Screen" button and the "Sounds" button for example is extremely dirty. But, I do not want to attempt to clean it with something that will remove the writing underneath these buttons.

call up vst and ask. theyll know. i just replaced all the switches and some of the button covers. wow its nice not having to press multiple times for it to work! im so used to using busted buttons, it feels weird that everything actually works

I replaced all the tact switches in my MPC3000 last week. I got my parts from Digikey. If you still need the part number let me know.

Does anyone have any tips on cleaning the top panel of the MPC without ruining the words underneath each button?

^noiz, i think any simple computer cleaner will work fine without taking off the words.

you can mix your own cleaner with a 1/3 combination of rubbing alcohol to water (1 part alcohol to 3 parts water). dab a clean towel with the solution and test it around the piece and maybe on one of the words below the buttons to make sure it won't take them off.

i just use goo-gone. some type of citrus cleaner. nothing rubs off

^yeah, i use goo gone too but for other stuff. it says it's main purpose is to REMOVE stickers and other sticky substances so i would be careful.

that stuff works really good but a little goes a long way. be conservative with its use.

Yeah I loved how fast I could work once I changed the buttons, I didn't have many weirdones, but when overdub went touchy I had to get them out.

I used that soldersucker Iron in that old thread today, and I still love it for 9.99.

I used that to replace my buttons, but it wasn't easy anyway, a nice $300 one would be so dope.

I am curious to know the 3k tact switch part number, and if it is indeed a two pin tact switch.

Replacing the covers really isn't a priority for me, mine is in pretty good condition. I use rubbing alcohol, I would like to use something better, but goo gone sounds kinda strong.


I also was in an elevator with Redman today. Sometimes I can't help loving that kind of shit.

Damn El, you seen Redman..That's hot. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you guys for the tips. I did try the goo gone (very little bit in each place) and that shit worked like a charm. None of my words below the buttons came off and my MP looks good as new. I'm still gonna holla at VST for some new buttons and possibly some switches. I can't wait to start messin with my 60, S950, EPS(original) combination again. I've been missing this combo since I got my 4000 like two years ago. I gotta get back to my grimey roots...
