Also never underestimate owning an original 106 and 60 while using accurate emulations like U-NO for convenience, but point taken!

I'm not a dub techno expert, but a basic dub chord is a minor triad, playing saw oscillators with a filter with a wah-like envelope into delay and reverb effects. And maybe an LFO adding motion to the filter. Right? What kind of a problem did you have with Tubesynth?

agree i am guilty of this all the time; yesterday i made a beat using tube synth preset and it came out alrite, so for all that talk from me about tubesynth being shit, i just disproved my own premise, so its all about mindset and skill, i aint the best sound designer.

Don't underestimate Jura's reverb (which should become a standard for all other plugins and even as standalone FX) and arpegiator.

Regarding oscillators and filters I found that they have their own personality closer to vintage analog synths (Juno) then tubesynth ones.

Being honest about your shortcomings is a great step towards improvement. Like someone mentioned, Tubesynth & Bassline is perfect for certain type sounds, but you'll also need the right mentality & proper synth skills to make the most out of them. Maybe we should start a sound designer tips thread.

A lot of people use things like Korg Volca boxes, and somehow they're able to accept the devices as instruments. But for some reason, Tubesynth and Bassline cannot be accepted as instruments? And really, if you can't make dub chords with Tubesynth... what.

To some people, a synth is considered bad if they don't like the presets.

Very few synths get 'that' sound. I have searched for it for decades. I've heard a lot of bad attempts on YT, a lot of tutorials which do exactly what you suggest and don't sound right. Its the synth, which I believe is probably best if its paraphonic, then its dub delays (Air Delay Pro is perfect), compression afterwards to make the fading delays as strong as the chord, a phaser on 0 sweep and you tune the freq, then a lofi effect. Reverb somewhere in there too, especially if the tail hangs around and creates a faint continuous chord bed.

You are right about a peak filter around 400Hz maybe but you also need notches which a phaser can do but EQ can do it too.

For peeps that love synth sound designing, no.

Well in Bassline's case, there's no way to set the tuning. This is a massive oversight considering how common it is to make beats which revolve around slightly out-of-tune/atonal rhythms. The only way the Bassline has a fighting chance of sounding good is to sample it and tune the sample, which then makes it untweakable at worst and introduces unnecessary artifacts at best.

It's a synth, and synths were meant to be tuned and tweaked, so really it's no surprise synth folks hate on it. I tend to agree that it's just not that good. The user shouldn't have to find workarounds on a synth, be it hardware or software.

I've never found sample libraries with that sound, to have standalone stabs and not completely washed out in reverbs or delays. They end up being loop libraries of someone else's work. Riemann for example, the loops are either terrible or you cannot extract a chord to make your own. If such a sample library exists, I would love to know.

a sound designers tip threat would be useful; cos I already know what all the elements of subtractive synthesisers are and what they do but am somehow clueless on how to put the elements togther
