MPC Live II - transport controls with MPK Mini Plus

Hi everybody. I’m new to this forum and to the MPC in general. I’m trying to find resources to help me set up transport controls on MPC Live II to take commands from an MPK Mini Plus, and I can’t seem to find any information. I’m not very familiar with midi programming and could use any help I can get. Is there anybody here who knows how to set this up?

Transport controls are not supported by the mpk mini plus (and this is the prime reason that I returned mine).
The problem is that the mpk does not send mmc commands to start stop locate but only common midi cc messages.
Standalone mpcs do not have cc message support for their transports.
In other words you have to buy a midi controller that supports sending of transport commands or wait for akai to open its standalone systems to cc assign of play stop etc

Thank you for that info. Well…that’s a bummer ☹️ I didn’t think that they would make their equipment incompatible to remote operate the standalone units. Do you know if it will work with MPC 2.0 software?

I’m excited to get to work on the MPC but I have to admit…getting all the hardware and software lined out is tedious!

It does work with the mpc 2 software. And that because the Software is more open than the MPC OS standalone. You can even midi cc the qlinks. It is insane that akai doesn't allow you to do that in the standalone.

the MPK mini are the cheapest of the cheap. if you trade up to a bit bigger , like the MPK225.. they do support sending MMC. (and also give you a standard midi port in addition to the USB, which opens up more options)

I have mpk mini plus too and akai Force and just now, after number of experimental attempts I married them!
1) unplug your mpk mini plus from mpc/force usb
2) power on your device and load a project (better a new one)
3) then plug the keyboard into the usb port
4) press PLAY button on the keyboard as soon as it boots up!
5) if didnt work check midi settings and go steps 1-4 again.
Pref -> MIDI/sync -> all the modes on (global, control, track) near both mpk 1 and 2 midi inputs, sync, track near the first mpk midi output, recieve and send MIDI Clock, check send and recieve MMC. I also have FORCE virtual midi track and control enabled but no sync.
