This is how you make a tutorial! I love how he did this & I hope he does more FX demos!

From the description: (*Edited): 755 views Jun 23, 2023 In this effect walkthrough video, I go deep with the Flavor Pro plugin. It can be seen as a video manual of sorts. This lofi tone altering texture plugin is mostly intuitive and easy to use but there are various parameters that are trickier to understand and use. I feel like this effect is underrated and I'm hoping to demystify things a little bit. Whether you start each instance from scratch or use and tweak presets, it will greatly benefit your music or sound design, to understand what you are doing to the sound via this plugin, to get the best results.

Yeah, I like his MPC-based videos - they're extremely well done. I checked out his MPC/Ableton DAW user video many months ago, as well as his 12 MPC One tips. I don't think he'll do MPC stuff regularly - looks like there's months between the only 3 or 4 videos he did. Looks like he was just using Youtube as a platform to promote his music and videos he did for the past 10 years - maybe he's rebranding the channel?

*EDIT: he said exactly that at the 7 minute mark in the video above, so maybe we'll see more MPC-focused content afterall! :worthy:

I hope he does more breakdowns. His style is very informative & straight to the point.

Agreed, though I prefer The Crates Motel. Dude has industry experience and well thought-out/useful tutorials.

Crates motel is how I envisioned Tutors videos would be like if he ever got into that format. Real world practical tutorials from an experienced mpc user. Not the Marlows and Aves of the world giving terrible advice to innocent beginners.

I treat all these YouTubers like supermarkets & go in not expecting to buy everything they're selling & only get what I find tasty & useful. Tho, some stores are way better than others & some needs to be shut down by the MHD (Musical Health Department) or at least be giving a big ass fine or something :smh:

Next to Ave Mcree everyone is J Dilla. And to be fair Marlow has been making beats for 20 years. He pretty much runs a music channel with a "this is how I make stuff" philosophy.

It's not like he's comparing MPC's with the volume know halfway on both devices. Or converting wav's to snd's in the computer instead of sampling sounds into a sampler.

But Conan is gonna murder most of the content out there. Such a well versed dude that I download every MPC video to reference later.

I actually meant to type Malo (I think that’s his name). Marlow digs is cool because he actually digs and makes decent music. But he doesn’t give much technical in detail advice of current mpcs. At least not what I’ve seen

I have no grudges with Malo too. Seems like a great guy, doing what he likes, spreading good energy and taking care of his family. Never heard him say a bad word about anyone, never seen him involved with drama. He sticks to his thing.

Plus - at least to me, because I'm a **** on the topic - his videos are well made. And he always seems to be humble enough to say "this is what I do, it works for me. Doesn't mean it's done the right way". I can respect that.

And he deserved an SE way more than some toxic clowns. It would have been a much better investment and PR move. It would be featured in a lot more videos and Akai wouldn't have a shill hurting their brand with dumb and toxic videos full of fake info and blabbering. But Dibiase already took care of that himself.

To me, the most interesting channel is Marlow's. If I had a channel it would be like that. And he used to be more technical in his earlier days. Has tons of new gen tutorials. I think he pretty much showcased everything already. From time to time he goes into some concepts or breaks down new features, but he's more about creating than being the tutorial guy.

And I get the feeling he's mostly against that, even for his viewers. His talking videos make his opinion pretty clear.

At the end of the day, YouTube is a platform where people share their things. Malo and Marlow seem to be two guys that are sharing (and profiting through) something that was part of their identity. The problem are the guys that feel entitled to tell people to earn their stripes because they have a lot of subscribers. It's some Mother Theresa "I TEACH PEOPLE" shit.

Marlow Diggs has great content, and I personally enjoy his choices for crate digging. Seems like the Portuguese scene really has a reverence for classic 50's/60's/70's era jazz, and it comes through on Marlow's productions. I've watched his channel since it was (once) called MPC Head, before he branched out and re-branded. Seems like a genuine nice guy, as well.

Disagree about Malo. It’s a problem that his video production is on point because then people think he’s legit.

It’s cool he’s doing what he’s doing. Not hating. It’s just clear he started that channel shortly after getting an mpc for the first time. His advice is bad (from what I’ve seen). I once saw him take sample pack drums that had been overly processed and mad a video on how to use add efx to drums. It was bad.

I saw 1 of video where he showing advanced sampling tips & most if not all of them could be found in the manual, which is cool but, say so & add the page number. Maybe it was just that when I read the title I was expecting tips NOT found in the manual. But I've seen other videos he did that was on point. That's why I treat them like supermarkets. Also, aways call-out BS in the comments :fku: , Something dudes be willing to learn when wisdom is shown to them in a respectful way. Overal,l he seems like a cool guy & I can tell he'll grow to improve in the future.

Also when it comes to supermarkets some stuff you need to avoid for personal health reasons. Like I think I'm allergic to Ave, or can only eat a very small servings once in a blue.

Who cares if he’s “cool”? That’s my problem with the whole thing. People get caught up on the production value and how likeable they are and that distorts their opinion. Objectively him and Ave aren’t beat makers, producers, engineers, etc. They peddle sample packs and pretend to know what they are doing while giving terrible advice to new beat makers. Who cares how good the video looks or how nice they are…

The whole point of this thread was highlighting what makes channels like crates motel valuable. I think there’s a huge lane for real world expertise and advice on producing on an mpc.

Bro how you gonna come on my thread & tell me what the whole point of this thread that made about a Flavor Pro demo is all about?

I also pointd out his BS advanced sampling video I & say some video he did are on point, unfortunately for me most those are on basic stuff that I already know. Maybe some people will let the fact of being a likeable guy distort their judgment of him. I said I treat all these YouTube dudes like supermarkets & get what I find useful. That's a very objectives way to go about it.

It's your POV, I respect it. And maybe you're right. I stay in my place because, truth be told, I'm an ignorant. But I don't feel he actively goes out of his way to look like something he's not. It's a public platform and people need to be responsible for who they listen and what perceptions they believe in. How can I censor a dude for posting beat videos on YouTube?

There are way way way way worse examples. Ave Mcree being one.

And not that it matters that much, but he said multiple times that he started on a 2000XL years ago.

You're absolutely right about what you're saying. The content should be judged for what it is. But it's up to the audience to realize that. They don't force people to watch their stuff. The platform is open to everyone. I think it's pretty much common sense to not trust everything you read/watch online... Still, there's a difference between a guy that makes his stuff and shares videos about it, and a guy who behaves like he's an expert when he is clearly not. Again, look at Ave Mcree MPC3000 debacle. To me, the way those guys conduct themselves makes all the difference. Some I don't like because they're clearly selling snake oil. Most of them don't bother me.

I think anyone with ears can understand that Crates Motel does phenomenal stuff. He's on of the few that actually makes watching youtube something productive.

E-A Ski became a hero for throwing (truthful) shots at Ave. Sonics, music, analog, magic, bla bla. The first thing he did was sell 40$ kits in the name of the "truth" he was giving the people. His accolades need no mention. He interviewed Malo a few days ago and gave him a lot of compliments. Now what?

It is what it is man. It's up to the people. That's the good thing with YouTube. There's always someone else.
