Dumb question?

That maybe a non-issue for someone without the OCD, but...

When recording external stereo input, how do you actually make sure that left and right channel are on the same exact levels? The gain knobs are made without any tactile stops in between the gain scale so its kinda unsettling for me to set them evenly.

I do it by ear. Play stuff into the inputs, monitor it, adjust the gains until it sounds like being in the center.

What's worse about the inputs is that there's no clipping indicator anywhere. I've accidentally clipped and noticed it too late many times. Another reason to start using an external USB audio interface?
