MPC X

I need to update my2nd owned MPC X from Version 2.07 to 2.12.1... problem is when i go to screen to press Preference tab there is no Tab marked preference? Also when I put in controller mode and connect with USB cable, my computer never sees my MPC X ? This is my 2nd MPCX so i know what to expect but where is the Preference Tab?
