I was itching to test out Key 61 my local guitar center had one on display and I was able to sit down with it for an hour or so uninterrupted..

I have to say I hate everything about it.. slow boot up maybe this was due to being a display unit getting heavy use. Also screen is to dam small why didn't they have a tilt screen.. I just can't imaging using this for long periods at all.. layout like it should is different coming from the MPC X.. Key bed is just a midi controller feel.. should have had semi weight action keys. It just feels like a MPC with keys that horrible developed..

I will say it again I hate it I can see the price dropping to a grand soon.. it's a piece of shit.. I know harsh but a waste of my day.. :o :o :o

AAAAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHA

Damn, did it kill your puppy?
I like it aside from having ONLY 4 Q-LINKS.
Boot up doesn't bother me. Keybed action doesn't bother me.
Screen SHOULD HAVE BEEN TILTABLE, I can't sit there for long periods of time with arms hanging over the screen, neck gets irritated.

X is still the first thing I turn on when wanting to do anything and everything.

It felt weird I sat there for a few seconds and was like what am I doing how is this a MPC.. they should have had a different OS for the Key61.. also keybaord mode I didn't understand.. also when loading 3 instances of fabric XL I started to hear cracking noise.. also loaded drumsynth.. it just wasn't for me it would have to be on a keyboard rack tilted and used as a secondary workstation.. that being said you just need a midi keyboard If you own a new MPC..

Lampdog you were right ill stick with my X :o

As a comparison, it doesn’ compare AT ALL to my Kronos2, a real keyboard.
I knew it wouldn’t, so with that it ended up being exactly what I thought, I actually like it.
Like I said, tilt and 16 q-links and it would be WAY more enjoyable.

I’m keeping mine even tho I don’ use it as much as I should.

When using X’s plugins I tend to usb midi my subsequent-37 to control them instead of just going to Keys61. Moog keybed just feels GOOD.

All that said, I still haven’t felt a keybed that can **** with ASR-10 in its class/price range.

I have an asr-10, so I mentioned 10.  Keys61 is not flowers with either the 10 or 88’s keybed. Keys61 is SUPER light, when I first held it, it felt fishy, kinda pricey. I got over that though, I wasn’t expecting perfection when I bought it which factors in to why I’m not disappointed. It’s a regular ole mpc with a touch strip and keyboard. I’ve rarely maxed the ram in X, not even close to maxing the ram in Keys61.

Touch strip makes some cool shit possible without having to go into the XY screen all the time. 8 section touch strip stepping is clearly evident.

In contrast the touch strip on Kronos2 is smooth.

I could sell Keys61 and not even miss it, I don’t need to sell it though.

Lack of tilt screen is why I never even considered buying it. Sure other keyboard workstations don't have it but it's an MPC with keys. No way could I hover over that thing for hours and hours trying to make music. I can sit in front of my X for 12 hours comfortably. I bought a Force brand new the first week it was out and I barely ever use it because my neck and eyes get tired after about 45 mins.

Still sucks not having a tilted screen. At least there's a screen mod we can do to make it happen. I wonder if it work on the MPC's.

If any of you is brave enough to try it on your MPC here you go & good luck:

This... about 4 months ago i was like "I cant sit like this anymore!" PERCHED in a chair like a bird hovering over the damn mpc one. I bet the keyboard is similar.. end up struggling to find the best seating position to use it.
