Hope it's ok posting this here, I do have another account here, but wanted to make it clear I'm from hgsounds and couldn't change the username. so I'm new/not so new :)

Kit Creator which is an app for Windows/Mac that creates MPC Drum Programs/Ableton Live Drum Rack Presets from folders of existing samples you have. You can assign up to 16 folders to any Pads. It can Randomise Volume, Pan & Release within specified min max parameters per Pad, generates some amusing/interesting Random Names. It has a Preset system and a Theme system for switching Colours.

it’s currently a beta as I still have some features to add, such as editing folders of existing files to ie randomise the pan etc… as well as some basic conversion between MPC/Live. Whilst in beta it’s $19.99, usual price $34.99.

Good job. Dont forget about previews for this expansions. Make it better than KitMaker.
There should be also options for round robin/cycle per pad and something for selecting correct sample if I drop folder with 20 wav's.
For example we can set main note for program or group of pads, and when folder with 20 samples is dropped on pad, app only select samples with Am in the name.

thanks, I actually made this for my own purposes initially as an xml driven app without a GUI and then decided to make it into a product, I was made aware of kitmaker a few weeks ago and whilst I like the way it intelligently selects samples, that wasn't the approach I'd taken. I won't be going down that route myself, and once I have v1.0 finished with the abilty to batch process existing files, it will be a handy companion to that program.

The way KC works with folder assignments is that you can assign a folder to any number of Pads, the folder is randomised on the start of the scan and then samples are sytematically used until it reaches the end. An 'all used' flag is set and the folder is then randomised again and the samples get used. If 'All/-1' is set for the amount instead of a fixed number, it will continue until every folder has the 'used once' flag set which means every sample was used at least once. with Kit maker, I found it an odd choice that as soon as samples had been used, the Pads would be empty, so only the 1st x number have 16 samples.

If more than one folder is assigned to a pad, one of the candidate folders is randomly selected.

The philosophy behind distribution is about using lower number folders on 1 Pad shared with other folders, whereas those with more samples assign to multiple Pads. I've been trying to envisioning a method of highlighting this on the GUI to help, but haven't quite thought about how to represent it.

Roundrobin/multiple layers is a good idea. Once I have v1.0 completed I definitely want to look at expanding supported Parameters.

Where the app goes entirely depends on how many I sell and the ability to fund further development, I'd love to be able to work on it full time for a few months, but right now I'm not promising anything beyond what I've listed for v1.0. I have thought about being able to go through a folder and preview kits but that's a big feature to develop. If I went down that route it would make sense to make it an actual vst/au instrument. I thought people would be more excited about it, but I've only sold a handful so far.

...and this is the reason we should support this project. This developer is not there to take advantage of someone else's hard work, but to enhance it.

Good for you my dear sir! I applaud honest hard work. I will buy (once I have funds available)

Thanks! I would hate to hurt fellow indie developers, it's very difficult to earn in the industry as it is.

It's coming along now, I've just created the processing panel with Source/Processing options & Output sections, and moved all of the current functionality onto it. I've also got rid of the up/down arrows and replaced with draggable folders for re-ordering which is much better. I've also added folder sample totals and total for all samples so you get an idea of how much space the copied samples will take up. I'll release an update in the next couple of days before I start to work on the actual converter code.

Nice but it reminds me of this old utility, MPC Pad 187, ]https://www.mybunnyhug.org/software/mpcpad187/help. It hasn't been updated for a while but it allowed us to tweaked directly the Enveloppe, Filter, mixer…
You're getting into the right direction from what I see on your promo video with the
It can Randomise Volume, Pan & Release within specified min max parameters per Pad,

In your list of features to implement, what does this one means?
Changing parameters in existing presets via a directory scan.

Many thanks.

it isn't my intention to make an editor, the MPC software is aready the ultimate editor isn't it? This is more about generating Preset collections easily. One thing I haven't mentioned is that you can use your own xpm as the template. I will be adding direct import at some point to do it automatically, but for now you can replace the template in the /documents/Homegrown Sounds/Kit Creator/ folder.

The beauty of being able to use a template is that you can shape all 16 individual pads to whatever you want, so it can be extensively customised via the MPC per pad wtihg any parameters you want. All that Kit Creator will change is the parameters it supports when they are enabled.

The editing feature means that you can edit existing instruments so you can use Kit Creator to do its stuff on existing files. For example, you could randomize pan etc... in Programs made by Kitmaker. I almost have this feature finished now, it will make sense when you see the new panel which is organised into Source/Processing/Output Options/Export Formats.

Off topic, but I don't get notifications from this forum when a topic is replied to, I have it enabled in the options, but don't get anything, am I missing something? I think this was true with my other account too.

I've uploaded a screen shot, although the irrelevant options are still shown currently and some of the logging hasnb't been updated yet, but you get the idea!

The Coming Soon bit will be MPC/Live Conversion Panel.

Hi, this is Grayson, the creator of Kit Maker. I am an independent small app developer that originally made the app with a friend in 2019 but I now run everything myself. Although the website makes some people assume it is a big company, I designed and created the website, videos etc myself (I am also a designer).

I listen to requests and update the app over time. We just came out with version 2.3 in the last few weeks, which adds some new features.

Kit Maker makes kits for the MPC (and other DAWs like Ableton etc). You just import nearly any drum sample pack (or Maschine Expansion, which includes audio previews in the MPC kits) and it will make the kits out of them. It used to require that the samples be organized by folders, but in the new version it is smart enough to tell if the files arent organized by folder and will instead sort them by how the files are named. The latest update also allows making kits on multiple banks in one kit preset.

Feel free to leave a comment on the website if you have any feature requests or issues, and thanks for checking out the app! :)

(Oh and I also have another app called Preset Maker which can take labeled .wav one shot files (Soft Piano C1.wav, etc) and turn them into MPC instrument programs automatically. )

Everything has gone really well with the 2.3 beta. The only issue (which came up after Push 3 dropped) was an issue with multi-bank kits on the Push 3 when used in standalone. That pushed things back (no pun intended) but should be fixed soon.
I like to have everything working and to have many people test it before I send a mass email telling everyone about a new update. Unfortunately that means that I cant get the word out quite as quickly, but I dont like mailing users often or sending out updates that I don't feel are super finished.

You can get info and the download like for 2.3 here though:

I must have a completely different process to making music than most lol

Not trying to bash this product as I’m sure the creator put a lot of hard work into but I really don’t understand the need for a kit maker. How are people using this? What’s the purpose and how does it help in making music?

When I make a beat I’m not making “kits”. If I’m not sampling and loading drums sounds instead I just browse until I find sounds that fit the current project. Why would I load up a whole program of sounds into a kit not to use it :hmmm:

Sorry for my ignorance but I always was curious to what the purpose of this was for.
