Using MPC w SSL Big Six (or other Class Compliant Mixer)

I see a lot of videos of people connecting their MPC to a class compliant mixer via USB, and then recording back into the MPC.

What I'd like to do though, is connect the MPC to a mixer like the Big Six via USB, add my eq, compression, etc, and then record those tracks directly into the DAW without using any other interface.

Will that work? Or, when you select your USB mixer / soundcard as the sound source in the MPC, does it disable the USB audio in the mixer so that the only place you can record out to is back into the MPC?

Because it would be really great if I could record the stems from the MPC through the Big Six and then into the DAW.

Doh! I guess I answered my own question by looking at the back of the Big Six. Since there's only one USB C connection, you either have to use it as w your computer or with your MPC, but not both at the same time.

That's too bad. It would be nice if there was a piece on the market that could be seen by multiple devices at once, but I don't think there is.

I had been looking at a solution like this for a while but i don't think there is anything that has basically a two way/multiple USB setup.

In the end I went for a Tascam Model 16 as this can record the EQ/Compressed channels to a main stereo mix plus all channels as stems (but without EQ etc).

I haven't had it long so It's early days and I couldn't say if its going to solve 'most' of my needs but its looking good so far. I only just worked out once all channels/stems are in the Tascam you can then send them all back through the mixer and EQ a new stereo mix if you want.

The iConnectivity interfaces iConnectAudio2+ and 4+ have this feature.
And not only showing the 2/4 analog in/outs and midi on both devices, but also providing up to 20 mono channels (10 stereo) for software routing between 2 USB devices.
(simultaneously and with low latency)
Some of their midi interfaces have the same functionality, just without analog in/out.

This works technically flawless cross-platform (Mac, Win, IOS), but documentation and labeling is kind of nerdy, hard to understand.
I have an iConnectAudio4+ for years and it‘s by far the most versatile interface I ever used.

But (except for this particular solution) you‘re correct. No one else dared the same, not even Apple with their single stereo 1 way IOS to MacOS solution.

Uh. You absolutely can do this. Put the MPC in controller mode and use the big six as the audio interface on your computer. This has been my workflow for over a year now.

In controller mode the MPC works as a USB hub, providing access to whatever devices are connected to its own USB ports.

With my Model 12 connected to my MPC One, and then my MPC in controller mode I only see the MPC One and its useless as my speakers / headphones are connected to my MPC.

Are you sure the mixer works in controller mode when the USB is connected from mixer to MPC?

I'm not sure I follow you. I don't have a Model 12 and I don't know what your setup looks like.

Personally I would never connect an audio interface to the USB ports of my MPC when in controller mode. I would never connect an audio interface to ANY usb hub, it is always directly connected to a USB-C port on my computer. I use the USB hub on my MPC for midi over USB only. My MPC is connected to my computer via an adapter. My MPC and sound card do not use the same USB bus.

Like I said, I've been using the MPC in controller mode with the Big Six since April/May of 2022 with no issues whatsoever.

I don't really understand why you're leaving the headphones/monitors plugged into the MPC when you intend to use your mixer as an audio interface in controller mode. I also don't understand why your mixer is plugged into your MPC and not into your computer when your MPC is in controller mode.

I like producing in standalone mode with the mixer plugged into the MPC and was just trying to see if there was a way to not switch cables when wanting to use controller mode for mixing. Think the answer is no, and it's more laziness on my part as I don't like switching cables from the standalone setup to my Mac.
