Hello folks,

An NI Maschine+ user here. Thinking about switching to MPC Live because of more frequent and meaningful updates, and I like the fact it has built-in speakers as I travel a lot and need portability.

However, 2GB RAM is too small for me. I am definitely not going to buy Live 2 because of 2GB RAM, but I am also not sure if Live 3 will come out and still have the speaker.

Could you please share your thoughts about any rumors or anticipated dates regarding Live 3? Is it going to happen this year?

I would like to have a drum group, bass synth, fx + leads (sampled instruments are fine). Not going to sample myself, need to create 8 or 16 bar loops using onboard instruments. Planning to buy the all-bundle plugins so that I can use various quality instruments and plugins.

With M+ usually not bottlenecks so far. I am just not sure if NI is a good onvestment at all. Wanna try MPC, but there is no rush. I can wait another year until next summer as I have everything I need. It’s rather a transition I want to take, so no urgency. Just started looking into it (a month ago)

Only thing I heard was about an MPC-Live Mini. It seems rumours have resurfaced again these couple of weeks. One youtuber thinks its a stand-alone MPC Studio, which concerning Akai's track record, just might be...

If you are happy M+ is not hitting bottlenecks, then why do you need an MPC? I would say primary driver should be workflows. If you prefer the MPC workflow for sampling and arranging then it's worth it. Otherwise stick to Maschine which also has a great workflow.

I actually don’t know the MPC workflow. And yes, I like Maschine workflow. But I also like how MPC evolves, the instruments and effects available seems to be more standalone-minded. And I heard “flatten” feature is also good. Just don’t like how resampling works on Maschine :) not comfortable for me :) I am an Ableton Live user, used to Freeze function :)

Thanks for info. This works for now. I’ll wait until winter to see what happens at both AKAI and NI. All depends if Maschine+ will still feel abandoned and if a Live 2+ will come out… so I’ll gove it a try.

Id say wait to Q1 2024 cos in winter Namm 2024 there is a strong possiblilty of mpc 3.0 software being announced and there is also talk of of an mpc live mini on the way but there is no info regarding Live 3

Buy whatever now, be happy.
Don’t like it, trade, return, sell, etc. Don’t need to wait.

All the current mpc's have enough resources and bandwidth to make good music and pretty elaborate projects. 2gb, 4gb doesn't matter don't even get hung up on it you'd only notice it using fabric which is a crap plugin or using a zillion keygroups. Find the one that is the cheapest in best shape and buy that one.

Are you making music or are you still waiting?

I have both, M+ and Live II and I'm only limited by my not available time and skills but not by my gear.

These discussions remind me of photography forums where user discuss new camera bodies and lenses in detail. However if you look at their pictures ... oh meh. They would benefit from education and training not from new gear.

Do you use both in parallel or o interchangeably?

In my case, I use already Ableton Live (software) as primary DAW, M+ standalone only. All this in studio. But I travel a lot. Like every 2 weeks I am somewhere around the world, and the back to home office again. So Live 2 with a speaker could be the travel device.
I do mostly synthwave-ish music.
