It's like the Cubase forums right now. C13 is due any time now, half the people are screaming 'WE NEED CUBASE 13 YESTERDAY' while the other half of us are going '12 already does everything we need, can't we just stay here a little longer?'.

In a better world, that comment would settle it.
What we really need is better maintained software on our current devices, not new hardware platforms on which to run the same old buggy software.

(also thank you for writing that SP guide, I’m getting into that machine again, because I apparently also cannot not live without new hardware sometimes )

Hey you're welcome for the guide, and hope it helps! I'm still on the fence how much more I want to do/put into it. I've got ideas, but I'm trying to poke at a few other guides to see what I might do next.

A fair amount of people have reached out to tell me they sold their 404 mk2, only to buy one again. I enjoy the device, but... not entirely convinced that if I sold it I'd get it again. There's a lot to like about it, but I still prefer to use the MPC for more serious music creation myself.

Anything in particular that brought you back to the SP side? :D

Oh yeah, I actually have defined a very clear use case now, I want to use it first and foremost for sampling bits and bops, from songs, ambient stuff from my phone, sounds from my Monologue and OP1. The stuff that is cool sounding but will not make you start a new track, and stuff that I can reuse on multiple tracks. Basically use it to build a sample library with which I can also play and experiment. That gives it a clear role in my setup and I can still use it for other stuff without feeling like I somehow have to.

I agree that for really laying stuff out in a sequence or even chopping up more complex loops and phrases, the MPC is just miles ahead (I actually even prefer to OP1f nowadays because I can just play; the 404 sequencer on the other hand is both too complicated and limited at the same time).

Wow. This topic has gone far from the day I left the room :)
I have seen a comment which sounds like a new Force is in works. That could be interesting, as I decided to keep away from MPC line for near future.
But Live 2 is great… just too big for me.

Honestly, unless you see the fcc filings or similar I wouldn’t believe anything you hear, akai even went as far as putting reference to a force keyboard in the firmware and that was eventually changed to the mpc key 61.

what do u see them changing if they was to make a new Force? only thing I can think of is to make it smaller and maybe add a flip screen

well.. if it eventualy comes out within next 2 years then no, I was serious, otherwise... yes I was messing with you, but don't worry you'll forget about it by that time.
You see where I'm going with it ?
Apparently you don't need any kind of proof to back it up nowadays. Ppeople will still talk about it while adding small bits and pieces, each time the information is passed forward and until it eventually blows out of proportions.

I was really hoping the force keyboard was going to become a reality but it just hasnt happened. Kinda sad tbh, I often wonder if the discovery of it was what ended it's development. It's kind of a tragedy, to know something neat was being made and they scuttled it. I hope one day they surprise us with that little gem.

I think that back then, they simply didnt't know which direction to take it - the only thing they knew was that they need a piece of keyboard market pie so they assembled a "generic" keyboard foundation and whether it will be based on force or mpc ecosystem was still open for discussion. Makes me want to pull out an old firmware and doublecheck if the testapp is still up for grabs

btw. Ultros, nice to see you still alive and kicking lol
thought you completely dissapeared after suckerburger kicked you out of fb

Angle screen is a nice option (both Force and Live could benefit this). EQ-spectrum visualization like Ableton Push for visual feedback is also good. Though, some updates may require a better CPU or RAM… But I don’t see any big reason to update current Force. It seems to be a finished product, almost.
