So I have an MPC live two retro since pretty much about the time it came out…so some time goes by..I end up purchasing new clear pads from MpcStuff and install them..some more time goes by and one morning I go and start it up..when I start it up the screen doesn’t turn on..well I look closer and I see with the flashlight that it is on displaying what it should be displaying, but just as dim as possible very dark can’t see anything.. being that I rarely use it in standalone mode. I just continued using it and some more time goes by and now I noticed that there is nothing being displayed at all now, and also when I started up the pad to do their little dance sequence slide up and my MacBook won’t recognize the MPC or vice versa. It won’t recognize my external hard drive or anything, the buttons all kind of just stay lit up or blink as they’re supposed to the pads are off and that’s pretty much all it does now it doesn’t react to the buttons or pads being pushed and I don’t know what to do from here. Definitely don’t want to just get rid of it being that I’m pretty sure its fixable somehow or some way..plus I love the thing I use it everyday , I’m thinking I may just need a new part inside. I don’t know what though.. if anybody can help me out with any suggestions or advice I highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest crackin it open again. You may have to Reseat that little Brown Ribbon cable, when you lifted that Main Circuit Board. Make sure it's seated properly. Unlock carefully, take it out and re-attach it. Sounds like the Backlight isn't coming on.

That may or may not work. I've had weird things happen, and re-seating the connectors does the trick sometimes

Duuuuuuuuuuude that’s exactly what it was!! The brown ribbon!!! I cracked her open and pulled the little black piece of tape that they attach to it to keep it from wiggling loose and say that is was pulled out just a smidget..so instantly I get excited cuz I’m like “this has to be what’s causing all this shit”…so I push it in and put the tape back on and put everything back together and hook her up..and I push power and I happened to look away and I swear I saw a flash (that was different than the start up dancing pad light up) and low and behold the screen turned on…man I’ve been using it with no screen for like a year now maybe a year and a half lol I know it’s been a while..man I’m so glad I thought to jump in this forum cuz I’ve come here just to read maybe get some tips and I’ve seen how people are nice enough to actually respond wanting to help with whatever the situation may be..just want you guys to know that I’m so appreciative l..thank you guys so much..I honestly feel like I owe you something..again thanks for being so helpful..signing off to compose a track..Justin by the way my fellow MPC’ers

Yeah , MPC is just a computer. Think of it as desktop PC of some pre-goliath GPU era. It needs contact cleaning once in awhile (like every year or so), heatsink thermal paste replacement, dusting off, etc. Hope your MPC will serve you for years to come

Just out of curiosity, did someone replaced thermal paste on CPU pcb?(and have some photos?) mine live 2 retro is still runnin good and smooth, but like other cpu based electronics its a good practice to change thermal paste once a while

I appreciate you guys to the fullest man..I’m coming to these forums from now on with my questions..again thank you guys again.. and no nobody has any thermal paste or anything inside my MPC I’ve been the only person to open her up since purchase..and as far as photos I don’t have any didn’t think to take any when I opened it up..I’ve also noticed when I try to use my Mpc in standalone mode it does some weirdness like when I go to play a beat on it well first it says “No internal audio detected” or something to that effect.. and I’ll load something up and it loads up I can see the little marks on my grid.. then I go to push play but nothing happens.. none of the buttons are lit up nor do they light up when I push them..the touch screen works I can press on the things on the screen and move things around the grid but all buttons and q-links don’t do anything…sigh..I don’t know what’s going here..thank you guys again in advance if you have any help or guidance to give..thank you
