Serato Stems - Real-Time Audio Source Separation

When do we think Akai will incorporate some sort of Real-Time Audio Source Separation into it's software? I heard Fruity Loops has a version of it, it seems like an amazing function.

Even Koala Sampler has a version of it.

I suspect that this latest thing may appear with the long speculated over 3.0 update. I wouldn’t be surprised if it came as a rental piece of software for existing hardware. I have a feeling that InMusic would be the company to try and milk their user base in that way.

This great if your lazy and dont want to be creative.I have used a standalone that does the same thing and bought serato sampler which I rarely use because I'm old school and like having some of the instruments bleeding in and filter..

This AI league just want shit done for them.. hiphop now is what musicians hated in the 80's no talent.. what was done in the 80's and 90's was hiphop now is just plug and play no talent..

Look at It like this you steal a 50 year old sample strip out what you need and make a beat and post it on what ever platform and now you can just stream record and take out your tags. Who wins your beats are free now I got it and screw your internet contract you got a lawyer for 10,000 scumbags .. my opinion which is free if your selling then listen..

the idea of people peeling stems from another persons song sickens me. the concept of ai to me is a joke. who cares if it makes "good music" or not. A boat can out swim a human, a car can out pace a human but we still show respect to the fastest runners and swimmers. I think if we go down the road of even giving that whack ass shit attention that stupid dweebs really will become famous for being tallentless hacks and posers. we needa nip that at the bud by giving that bullshit radio silence.

I get you, but being this is a sampler forum, where do you draw the line. Isn't sampling doing the same just cruder.

Hearing Kanye having lifting of Daft Punks Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger kind of sickened me. But when you hear some of Daft Punks lifted samples from Edwin Birdsong, and some of there other tracks, Í questioned the line. I don't know how to feel!

So if the tune happens to have a spot where only one stem is playing, it's ok to sample, but if you have to remove unwanted frequencies to isolate it, then you got no talent.

I think it’s complicated. Sometimes stripping a song of its bass and rhythm to get to the melodic part is cool and all but sometimes you just make something weird and lose the soul of the original track. I think that in sampling, working within the confines of the original structure of the song and manipulating that whole structure makes better music most of the time.
I remember starting out that I thought I had all these cool samples, but once I frankensteined the chops together I realised that I created a deformity that had lost the spark that made me like the original sample.
In general this is more of an ethical issue (in the sense of what constitutes good actions) than it is an aesthetic one so I guess that’s what makes it problematic.

It's pretty much it. Reminds me of a dude who went balistic on a discord server when Serato Studio first dropped. NOW NOOBS ARE GONNA MAKE FIRE BEATS WITH NO EFFORT SMH. Gatekeeping at its finest. Reminds me of the folks that think you press a key on the computer and it's done.

And it's sampling. The irony is priceless.

As for stem separation, it literally takes 10 seconds to get them in the MPC with that ssh thing. Not as easy as pressing the touchscreen, but pretty fast. Plus it's a sampler, record it in.

It's the type of feature that's overhyped, everybody goes crazy and then nobody uses. I have Studio and Sample. It's a glorified fast acapella maker. And even then UVR is better and free.

The stems are probably cool for wizard electronic producers who want to sound design starting with weird shit, drop some easter eggs, etc. It's also useful for studying.

Don't get mad. There's millions of people that think hip hop from the 90's (or whatever era you want) and sampling is lack of talent. Let the kids play. I love Madlib as much as anybody else, but if I'm gonna be mad with people wanting to use certain elements for creative endeavours, I probably should be mad with the loop digga too. It's not the tools, it's the people using them.

This is a great topic I'm looking it like if you plan on selling you beats look at the next producer stream off of what ever social platform remove your tags drums and so on just to get to the melody you made..

I would rather see some more basic features, like automated silence truncation, automated looping, etc.

Personally I have used some free stem separators at times. Once I needed to separate a woman's vocals from the %#& ukelele she used in the demo. I have also used them to extract voiceovers from movie trailers for use in songs. As always, stem seperators are tools; it's what you do with them that matters.
