This is a hot topic across all platforms.. serato sampler even tho it doesn't sound clean the chopping capabilities are incredible.. ripx is great also if you want to use standalone to create sample packs for yourself to create later in you daw or mpc.. I use both at times..

Workstation forum*

Midi Production Center. (Now music production center). Sample based music in the boom bap manner was an exploit of its capabilities and one that people seem think is the core essence and fundemental design of the unit which it is not.

What sort of review is that... Demucs not included? Maybe there's an assumption that only alternatives suitable for computer illiterate people can be considered. ;)

Also, lalal.ai, spleeter and splitter.ai are missing. All free (I think).

Nonetheless, they all are great tools, but I‘d never associate them with skill. I‘d love to clean up my film samples, but that‘s usually not what they were made for. In most cases, those tools are sort of overpowered, because often not needed. And filters usually sound better. Unwanted materials from samples can still be masked.

Considering that there are GUI front ends (as I'm sure you'd be aware from the quality of your posts), I think the link basically entails what are the best 'paid' tools.

I've gone down the rabbit hole with various Demucs, mdq, etc models, spending hours comparing them all.

I actually dated a couple models as well, and some that ended up remodeled.

What comes to the opening question, I'm wondering, why does stem separation need to be done in an Akai branded product specifically. A lot of other stuff is missing like proper audio warping, transient detection, beat sync, tempo maps. Separate your stems on a PC and take the wavs to Akai land? Well, if stems could be separated straight after sampling, it could make it easier to get cleaner chops/slices.

I guess copyright issues are no different with stem separation. If you don't have rights to the stuff, you don't have rights to stems separated from it either. If you don't care, you don't care, stems separated or not.

Dunno what the talk about "talent" is. Probably something irrelevant. Are there any examples of old farts' "kids these days have it too easy" whining having been relevant, making any difference? Is there an actual problem the old guys are trying to address?

People are foolish if they don’t think professional beat makers and old heads aren’t using stem separation.

I understand if you don’t want to use it but to say it’s lazy or making the beat for you shows you’ve probably never experimented with it.

Old heads back in the day were always trying to use methods and techniques to remove or reduce the drums and vocals in samples.

But just because it works doesn’t mean you should use it every time. For example, say you have a dope melody sample but had drums over it. So you high pass to remove as much of the drums but the high end is still there and helps add swing and groove to your chops. If you separated the drums stems out you would have missed that groove.

It’s just another tool of the trade. Use it if you need it.

I just checked all 3 of those and they let you "test" it but then you have to pay to download anything

I did test: https://studio.gaudiolab.io/

and was quite impressed. Besides making music, I also DJ. I like to make remixes and edits of tracks I play. Guadio Lab did a great job of separating parts, way better then other tech I tried a year ago. It's free and in Beta, but I'm betting they'll be charging once it goes out of Beta. But was very happy to get several nice acapellas , basslines or piano riffs with no artifacts. I do remixes when I can find the Stems of the original, but this opens up for tracks I can't get the stems for... Going to have some fun custom remixes now. A tool's a tool. And I'm happy to use the tool. What really matters is what comes out on the other side, since 99.9999999% of music now adays is garbage.
