Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I am new here so I will apologize if this is a topic that has already been discussed. I received a MPC X two weeks ago and noticed that certain functions could only be toggled by touching the Touch screen.

Having the touch screen is nice but my preference would be not to use the touch screen at all and to move through the menu's strictly through cursor and Data Dial use only.

For example, when you are main mode you cannot access the Project bar or the Midi/Audio by cursor and Data Dial... Let's say you decide to add a system plug in to a track and click sounds... once gain the cursor is disabled and you can only toggle things with a touch screen. It seems that many of the menu's in the MPC, once you are in them, you are forced to tap the touch screen to toggle a function and work your way through the menu including the preferences menu which I would love to simply Dial through and then use the cursor to click and select things.

Not sure if this concern is one that should be put in the "MPC Firmware/Software Feature Requests & Suggestions" thread but I am wondering if there is anyway that this can be changed, this is an incredibly frustrating and limits usage for users who suffer from "Zombie Fingers" (LINK) https://nelson-miller.com/zombie-finger-an-introduction-to-this-touchscreen-phenomenon/

Wondering if anybody has this same problem and if there are potential fixes for this. Thank You.

Welcome.

Why accept a touch screen device and then not wanna use the touch screen?
You WILL drive yourself crazy with this type thinking.

Of course as we age, we lose moisture in our fingertips and skin thickens (if this is your situation). This is also something that will hinder touch screen users, can’t be helped.

Patched so touch doesn't work and/or get buttons to do all the lifting?
That's gonna be alot.

Brother can you read?

Nobody said turn the touch screen functions off.

I am talking about enabling functionality of the Cursor and Dial in all menus. This literally has nothing to do with the Touch Screen and everything to do with the cursor and dial's inability to traverse parts of the UI.

seems to be a common thing here lately. new users come in, ask a question, and either come back with some attitude or dont even reply or thank the person that helps them.

if you spend some more time in MPC circles.. you'll discover that Modern Akai is just incredibly bad about UI/UX updates. so many screens and interfaces are half-assed and have been in that state for a long time.
but it does come with a touchscreen, and that is what they've chosen to design around.

there is also hakai/ssh route ..

You can always send akai a feature request.
I've messaged them about not being able to use cursors on the X on the 16 level page and they change the UI and now all parameters are reachable via hardware buttons.

So if you're lucky your request might get a higher priority if you were not the only one to report it and the product team wil decide to address it.

I’ve been a reader of this forum since 2017 when I ditched Maschine for an MPC Live. It’s been such a great resource, and I honestly check it every day still. I appreciate all the insight and knowledge so much. But, damn… Reading this chain finally got me to create an account because it’s so absurd! wf1, why is your go to reaction when someone tries to help you out when you asked for help to be such a dick? Lampdog went out of his way to reply about something you could learn in the manual or by searching google. Are you seriously so baffled that you bought something with a 10” touchscreen might require you to use a touchscreen? Sell it, buy something else and make some music.

You think I care that he took time to reply. Read his response. He did not "Try to help me". He simply typed a response that did not help nor offer any trouble shooting advice. If anything he offered a misguided response and a critique that lacked fundamental reading.

Furthermore, you spent all this (time and hours) lurking the forums to make an account to respond to me (here of all places)? Sounds like you're putting the resource that is this forum to GREAT use.

I never stated I was baffled by the touch screen. What I stated is, being able to use the Cursor and Dial strictly should be a feature. I cited the condition Zombie Fingers to show that this is an issue that is essentially an accessibility issue. You defend Lampdog but he seems to think that his lack of being affected by this issue should mean no MPC's for disabled users or users with disabilities with him... basically stating those people can simply be "left behind". This is the type of person you're defending and that alone makes TWO dog-sh*t responses between him and you.

You been saving your keyboards strokes all this time and all these years and based on your response here, that is something I suggest you keep doing. Peace.
