Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I completely agree and support the OP. The touch screen "TUI" is clumsy, and a proper user interface design would allow navigating and operating with physical buttons as well. And USB keyboard, MIDI and whatever can be connected.

That said, I have zero expectations for any improvements, and I wouldn't try to contact Inmusic/Akai. It is not worth the trouble.

Sensible options are: (a) use it as it is, for whatever purpose you can right now, or (b) sell/scrap it, put it in a closet and forget about it.

See what we're doing wrong here on this form is not supporting each other. That's not the way to go. The OP has a great point and it does need support.

It does make sense for for people who don't have great eyesight and or zombie fingers to wan't physical control to menus. I mean the MPCX has alot of the buttons. They should be put to proper use as well as the touch screen. that was one of its bragging points. "Most physical buttons"

Suggestion to get rid of the machine because you can't see or usee the touch the screen? Come on now! That's too harsh.

That doesn't sound right or fair at all.

I find that this form has a lot of people who like to just chime in with opinions or comments that doesn't help nor further development of this community. :Sigh:

Why!!!

Ok, so what's your action plan now? What kind of concrete acts of "support" do you intend to do, which will result in the OP somehow gaining physical controls for all functions in his MPC?

1. forum user X does ... what ????
2. ????
3. ????
?. ????
-> feature implemented!

I fully believe in the feasibility of this plan, whatever the steps are going to be. Go for it!

There's no plan of action to show support. .

If you have an idea for something new or cool that you think should be added, showing support means saying, "Hey, I really like this idea! I think it would make things even better." You can talk about why you think it's a good idea and how it could help lots of people. It's like giving a thumbs-up to say, "This is a great idea, let's do it!" That's how you show support for a suggested feature

Does it have to be those exact words? And the first paragraph you quoted isn't pretty much exactly that? Or you mean I shouldn't have added anything after it?

"Let's do it." Why don't you start. Please do tell the world what you've done so far. Or wait a minute. Let's "do it"..: who exactly should do what? And that will actually, as in "in the real world", get these things implemented in MPCs? Really? How much money are you willing to bet on that happening?

You had me in the first half hahahaha (Google Appolos Hester).

but as far as sensible options... I wouldn't go that far..

Everybody seems to be taking this post in general as a "throw your MPC away" type of ordeal. It's not for me, I will eventually get used to using the touch screen. TRUTHFULLY, being able to nav menus with a cursor is just a more favorable and pleasurable way to learn the device because you have to "take the long way to functions" rather than tapping directly on a screen..

Exactly! why are people reacting with like throwing away the whole machine over a feature request  ... It is ridiculous how this thread had and has had no in between. First dude somehow took what I wrote as totally "Patching so touch doesn't work" which is insane... all I said was I want the cursor to work in all of the menus and not be disabled from use in certain places... meanwhile the next guy is saying there's nothing left to do but throw the MPC away or put it in your closet forever lmfao. These guys are nuts.

My post is literally a suggestion and a trouble shooting question rolled into one. Im asking is it possible to nav those menu's with the cursor and if NOT, is it something (Full cursor navigation of the UI) that can be added with an update. Nothing more, nothing less.. never once suggested that the touch screen needed to be disabled to do so. lol. :?

I don't think this forum exist in a cannon bro... Akai has continued to put out devices over the last decade that clearly reflect the community needs and wishes even if they fall short in a few places.. If enough people in a place like this clearly understand and agree and are asking for the same thing then it becomes a bigger UNIFIED conversation. This is with any request and concern. The best case scenario is that updating features and the device/OS like this will pose no problems for Akai. Worst case, we are told it cant be done with a reason... At the end of the day it is still a computer and there are some extremely savvy people out there who recognize bugs and perceives them as users do and not as the manufacturer does and provides community support which is what im sure the poster on the first page was suggesting (I am new to the device, not interested in hacking it yet :smoker: )

Funny enough this is my first MPC and I am under 30 yet I am aware that things like this in some ways is why JJOS and other MPC hardware/software mods exist in the first place.

I'll say this for my own musings.... this is a loaded device with plenty of capabilities and options, there's no reason why (besides system memory) Akai ... couldn't ... develop classic modes and other alternative systems for users to explore and have fun with... but please! dont let the idea of that get the community in an uproar lolololol I already have a guy thinking Im trying to totally disable the touch screen

interesting enough... currently would love to fire up my device... but thinking about having to use that touch screen :(

second that.

the oldschool button clicking workflow on mpcs like the 3000 or 4000 is just pure joy to use. the mpc x comes close, but fails in various tasks. just to switch the function buttons on and off all the time is really annoying. some of the menus doesnt react to the cursor up and down presses, which is obviously an oversight in software development.

i think that most of those shortcomings or oversights are coming from, designing the mpc live first, which is mostly touchscreen use, and the mpc x second, which is more about function buttons.

I said the only actually possible option besides ditching the machine is using it as it is. And I said the suggested idea is good. Adding physical controls for 100% all navigation and functions has been suggested several times before, and it is a completely obvious thing. Any bozo should understand that the tactile controls which are presented in marketing as a GOOD thing, have been left covering only a part of the functionality. The highest priced and best model X has the most physical controls, so Akai's marketing message is, more physical controls is better.

But you won't be able to actually do anything to force Akai to make improvements you want. It's lacking features and has lots of bugs. Petition? Post endless messages? What's the track record so far? None of the previous forum posters has been able to do anything. Or if you can show a counter-example, do so.

You can post messages here, but regardless of what you write, the product will not change. Do you want to make music or not? If yes, you will do it only with the currently available product.

This is impossible to know before purchase.
