Just remembered another important factor related to this. Sometimes an empty track that contains notes, gets assigned the last viewed program (for example if you’re cycling through the tracks, the last track that has a program assigned makes that program get assigned to the next empty track as you cycle through). This can also cause the issue with stuck highlighted pads, the pads behave erratically because they are potentially, already being held down by the second track. The good news is it’s not a hardware issue.
