Hey all. I've been using an MPC1000 for years and was an original S-950 user loooooong ago.
MPC One is new to me though, and I am looking for any tips on converting Reason NN-XT instruments into keygroup instruments on the One. Thoughts? There's not much on here about this topic.
Are there any intermediate conversions that might help, like Kontakt or something? Thanks!

Autosample the NNXT presets that you want. That's the easiest and quickest way, IMHO.

Thanks for your replies. Appreciated.
I was hoping there was a simpler/faster way than auto-sampling. I have a lot of tracks in Reason I'd like to make performable on the MPC One. But one can't have everything. :)

Another workaround would be autosampling with Samplerobot (I assume NN-XT can be hosted as vst on newer Reason versions)
Much faster (since vst sampling is ofline process) than MPC autosampling , plus you get automatic detection of loop points :)

Yeah, but then you're manually building keygroups for everything because Sampelrrobot doesn't auto-convert to MPC Keygroupds, does it? Could be wrong, though.. :hmmm:

The vst sampling part would be slow since every patch must be sampled individually , but all sfz patches can be converted at once to mpc format (batch processing all files in a folder)
still faster than MPC's autosampler

The fact alone that you have to load keygroups into a project and they will clutter everything even if you’re not assigning them to tracks will make you hate using keygroups so fast that it’s probably not worth the hassle to convert anything to MPC format (unless of course these are your signature sounds that you know in and out and won’t have to project-manage if you load them).

If you create an instance of Fabric and don't assign that plugin program to a track, it's sat there in your project taking up memory. So in either situation you have to conduct the same project management workflow of deleting unused programs. The only difference is that deleted plugins effectively 'auto-purge'.

And if you are loading many keygroups into ram just to preview them the quick workflow is to load one, try it out and if you don't like it just hit UNDO to simultaneously 'un-load' it and effectively auto purge the samples (i.e. you undo takes you back to the exact state your MPC was in before loading that program).

I just don't get the hate some people suddenly have for keygroups. They have no 'per instance' restriction, can consist of any sound you wish, can be made by you to your own exact requirements and when made properly take up far less memory than most of Akai's plugins. Having to occasionally perform some quick RAM management seems like a very minor, run of the mill thing to do in a sampler and shouldn't be seen as a tortuous ordeal.

What next, a campaign against sample based drum kits and chops? The MPC is a sampler not just a plugin host, although I'm sure Akai absolutely love it when people come to the conclusion the only sounds you can now use in your MPC are the ones found inside their plugins (available exclusively from Akai's store).

If people are worried about ram clutter, just use external MIDI synths (the MPC is, and always has been, a powerful MIDI sequencer), although given some of the MIDI bugs ATM I wonder how long it will be before MIDI support is too gimped to be useful.

Totally agree. Keygroups are literally the bread and butter of the MPC aside from Drum Programs. I can’t imagine an MPC (or Force) without them! And I have a lot of high hopes in Akai adding new features to Keygroups that’ll bring it into the next phase. It’ll happen. Guaranteed. :smoker:

I think by clutter he meant that the samples used by the keygroups are shown in your sample lists, maybe dozens of samples, even though you only wanted to load ONE sound. If you use a plugin, it only eats RAM, but not your cognitive management workspace. It's just a user interface issue. Akai COULD show the sample lists as more organized, like by automatically grouping and folding them according to what part of the project is using the samples. All it takes is someone with a clue and decision power and resources. It's like Man Utd. They have a lot of things, just no CLUE. Glazers... I mean, InMusic Out!

I'm on the Force btw, I assume it's the same issue.
