I've purchased 2 brand MPC Live II Retros over the past month. Each one had Firmware 2.10.

The first one initially worked however when updated to Firmware 2.12 (multiple times via laptop) it would take excessively long to boot, never leave the initial MPC screen or cycle on and off, never going past the initial MPC screen. This MPC was returned for a refund.

I purchased a 2nd Live II from a different vendor. Firmware 2.10. I updated to Firmware 2.12 (via a different laptop) and am experiencing the same exact issue. The MPC won't leave the boot screen, does not turn off and won't allow a hard reset (Full Level, Bank C, Erase while powering on). It literally takes up to 10 minutes to boot to the main screen so I can turn it off (as with the initial machine).

After decades of support, I am deeply disappointed with Akai. Any insight or help is appreciated.

2.12 isn’t the latest firmware. It’s 2.12.2 - perhaps try downloading the USB installer instead and updating via USB stick? If you tried via your laptop while in Computer Mode, that’s your common denominator right there. Bad cable? Bad port? :hmmm:

I updated it to the latest firmware via USB stick; the MPC now won't leave the boot screen and keeps powering on/off but won't get past the initial "MPC" screen. I'm waiting for it to finally boot to the main screen so I can turn if off.

Does anyone know of any other way to run diagnostics on it or hard booting it?

There is a way to put it into a factory mode that will allow you to re-flash the firmware. Certified Beatz has more information on that if you don't want to officially reach out to Akai tech support.
