So am I right in thinking Flex Beat on the MPC neither supports the editing/creating of patterns, nor the importing of those you've created on the computer version and exported as .fnv?? Seems a little shortsigted... Any idea if they plan to or are likely to add either of these functions? Both seem rather basic and obvious, although getting to such fine detail in the MPC may be difficult it looks like the overall editing window isn't too cluttered to translate to the MPC LCD. Shame if I'd still be restricted to the packaged patterns but still almost tempted for live use....

If it the SSH open hacked version of the firmware works for loading fnv files to add new patterns then it's something that might tempt me to give it a go!

You can import full Presets from Flex Beat VST into Flex Beat Player (standalone or desktop), but it is - by design - a feature-limited version of Flex Beat meant to be utilized in standalone. So make your pattern changes on the desktop and save them as a Preset to get them into Flex Beat Player in standalone.

So patterns themselves are saved in the preset, not just a pointer to the pattern, and thus user-created patterns can be loaded onto the MPC this way? Nice! Thanks, almost definitely be getting it then. :)

Is it the full preset which is compatible with the Fruity Loops .fnv format? If so I expected there's some fairly useful ones lying around the internet to be hunted out too, even if only used as starting points and inspiration...

Both Flex Beat VST Presets as well as Flex Beat Player Presets are saved in Akai's *.xpl format. No clue about Fruity Loops. I'm Reason 12 and/or Ableton Live all the way.

The *.fnv files are Envelope presets for Flex Beat VST (which are embedded in Presets saved for Flex Beat Player).

Sweet! I'm a Linux user, so it means I'm going to have to learn now to get a Windows program running on Linux (something I've been avoiding but has apparently improved a lot the last few years) to utilise this. It does sound worth it for me though, so thank you for clearing up my doubts :)
