Hello all,

actually I'm messing around on a project with the sample edit.

Im quite not sure which kind of chops i want to use so i would prefer it to assign several chop versions of the same sample to the pad:

for example:

Version 1 - Sample 1: chopped by BPM in 4 Slices and assigned to the pad
Version 2 - Sample 1: chopped by Treshold in 8 slices and assigned to the pad
Version 3 - Sample 1: chopped manually in 16 slices and assigned to the pad

I found out that when i create version 2 after version 1 already exists
(choose convert to "assign to slices" Pad 05 as non destructive slice) the chop settings of version 1 will be overwritten ( chopped by BPM in 4 Slices will be changed to chooped by treshold in 8 slices).

Is it possible to create several chop-versions without overwriting already existing chopversions of the same sample?

My aim is to have several chop versions on the pads to try out which fit best on my project.

Thanks a lot for your prompt support!

I did it as follows:

i assigned the origin sample to pad C01
than I chopped the origin sample and extracted it to 4 long chops ( after this I assigned these chops to pad A01 - pad A04)

After this I jumped again to the origin sample (pad C01)
I chopped the origin sample and extracted it to 8 middle chops ( after this I assigned these chops to pad A09 - pad A16 - I left pad A05 - A08 empty to have a border between the long and the middle chops)

After this I jumped again to the origin sample (pad C01)
I chopped the origin sample and extracted it to 16 short chops ( after this I assigned this chops to pad B01 - B16)

Further addition: I put all these chopped samples in one program.

Maybe this is not the most efficient way but for my expectations it works pretty well =)

The way I read your first post was that you want diff chops ON the same pad (not possible).

From 1 sample you made diff chops and assigned them to diff pads (very doable).

Of course you can have different slices on one pad, up to four, one per layer. Then you can chose how they're triggered (by velocity, cyclically or randomly.) But I'm surprised you thought he meant that, despite the missing S in pad(s) I thought it was pretty clear what was wanted.

By using Extract you are basically creating another copy of the sample, including all your slices, so now there will be three copies in memory. Unlikely an issue with a few reasonable length loops chopped up but something to be aware of.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what was needed, but if you stick with non-destructive chopping you should just use the 'pad parameters' export option. This way you can change your regions to your heart's content and only ever need a single 'master' WAV file.

All the slice regions are set directly on your pad layer(s) using the start and end parameters, and therefor any subsequent changes to the original sample's slice regions do not affect any program/pad/layer that might be using that sample.

You can use the 'sample to pad' option if you want to manually assign individual pads within the same program, or export to multiple programs and combine into a single program later.

"Non-Destructive Slice" is not an entirely accurate name for what it does, because it destroys the previous slice information stored in the sample. Or actually, it's already the editing in the sample editor itself which does the damage. "Pad Parameters" is the real non-destructive slice, because it creates safe copies of the slice information, which is left untouched by any further slice editing in the sample editor. Or actually, it means "Slices Which Are Protected From The Sample Editor's Chop Editor Thing".
