Play notes with samples MPC ONE

Hey! Quick question: Is it only possible to play notes with plugin instruments on MPC one? I try to use individual samples (melody, bass, strings etc) but without success. The pads turn red/yellow and i cant hear any sound.
I follow all the steps as suggested in tutorials but just cant seem to wrap my head around this.

Put your Samples in a keygroup program and maybe search in the manual for "keygroup".
If you are new to mpcs also check out the mpc bible.

can also turn on 16 Levels for any given pad and will have a chromatic scale across the 16 pads to play the sample as "notes"
